  • Trouble With My 11 Month Old Taking His Bottle

Ok so my sweet son, who will be 1 in 3 weeks L, is having an issue and I’m not really sure what to do about it.

He has started to not want his formula bottle during the day.  He may drink about 4 ounces of it and then he’ll drink water or juice the rest of the day.  In the evening at bed time he will drink an 8 ounce bottle and then during the night he will drink another 8 ounces.

I’ve started to transition him to cow’s milk during the evening time as well.  I have been taking out an ounce of formula and putting in an ounce of cow’s milk increasing it every couple days by an ounce.  We are now up to 4 ounces of cow’s milk and 4 ounces of formula.  He seems to take those two bottle very well.

I just can’t figure out why he’s not wanting it during the day.  We even tried to give him a half and half bottle this morning and he won’t touch it.  He eats all solid food (we call it table food as he is not eating any baby food).  He eats three meals a day and snacks on yogurt melts and Cheerios through out the day.  I’m thinking of switching him over to just cow’s milk once the can of formula I have is gone.

Is it too early to switch him?  Any thoughts on how to get him to take his bottle during the day?

I am having this same problem although my son is only 9 months old.  I'm not sure what to do because he is too young start on milk.  I have tried giving it to him in a cup but he doesn't drink it then either.  He loves to drink water out of a cup so I though maybe if it wasn't in a bottle he would.  He still eat baby food.  He eats stage 3 and loves it but I'm worried about him not getting enough calcium.  He snacks too.  Sometimes when we sit down he will eat 6-8 oz and then other times he will take just a few sucks and then spits it out and is done.  If I give him solid food then he will eat it so I know he is hungry.

no, its not to early to switch him. my son stopped taking a bottle by his first birthday, some kids just grow out of bottles faster than others. mine was off of formula and bottles all together by his first birthday...

I don't think it's too early to switch him. My son stopped nursing so much during the day when he was about 11 months and self-weaned at 13 months. Most people stop giving their children a bottle at 12 months anyway. It sounds like he is just ready to be off the bottle.

He doesn't want it which is why he doesn't want to take it. I'd follow his lead and switch him. He's fine to switch over and he's eating solids. Go for it.

That sounds completely normal, and close to what my daughter did/does. She's 14 months, but about a week or two before her 1st birthday she was totally on whole milk, and only had a bottle twice first thing when she woke up and right before bed, I'm getting rid of the night time bottle, and she eats three times a day and is only eating "people" food not any baby food at all, I think he's just telling you he's ready to be done with the bottle, and hey better now then later when he's too attached to it and 'll put up a huge fight when you're ready for him to be done...Good luck!

Not to early to switch. Maybe different trying the milk in a sippy cup?? He's getting most of the nutrients from the food now anyhow. Good luck.

My daughter did the same thing around 10 months old.  She was just weaning herself off the bottle.  She only drank about 8 ounces of formula every day for the next 2 months.  My doctor kept recommending that I try to get her to drink more but she wouldn't have anything to do with it.  The only thing that helped a bit was flavoring her milk with orange juice or chocolate powder.  Maybe try that?  Otherwise don't worry about it.

Not too early.  Put him on a sippy cup of milk and three meals a day with 2 snacks.

I think he's ready to switch to cow's milk. Sounds like he's eating plenty of solids and getting most of his nutrition that way so formula isn't necessary. My son is almost 11 months and doesn't take a bottle, he drinks cow's milk from a sippy cup and nurses 3x a day. I'm returning to work when he's a year old so I'm planning to wean him by then.

It's a natural transition. try givin him Chocolate milk or ovaltene in his bottle. Mine was alergic to milk protein but now he drinks several bottles a day. He has baby rot so we've been trying to switch him off at night. you should do the same.

he will be one in three weeks?  give the child a sippie cup and dont worry so much.  Both of mine came off the bottle at one year old.  I made a big deal out of throwing their bottles away and telling them what big children they were.
