  • It's Been Hell With My 5 Year Old Away!

...And its been the hardest thing ever!

She left 2 weeks ago to visit my mom in my hometown. My mom rarely gets to see the girls, so I know it's tough for her. I try to make it a point to visit home every 3-4 months, but my oldest is closest with Nana, and since school's out, they both talked me into letting her stay 3 weeks with her.

    It has been hell!

The house is so quiet. Usually by this time, I am breaking up fight #2 over barbies or play dough.
The first week, I felt so guilty about taking the little one to the park without my big girl, so I avoided it.

My little one has asked everyday when her sister is coming, and I keep telling her we'll pick her up next week....I cannot wait, and I don't think she can, either.

I know I say I want a break, but now that I have one, I just want her home!

Have you ever spent an extended time away from your child?

I haven't had either one of my children away from me for an extended period of time like that (but then again, mine are 2 and 3 and we live nowhere near family).  The worst was when I had to be in the hospital for a week while I was pregnant with Christian (so Emilee was just a year).  It was hard, but we both made it through. :)

I spent a week away from my daughter so she could go to florida with my parents. Then I had two weeks with her, only for her to go away 6 nights with my husbands mom camping. Needless to say, if she doesnt spend the night away for months, thats more than okay with me. It was hard for me to sleep, because I swear I can feel her breathing from the other room.

One night my aunt took my son(only 5 months old), I was thrilled at the idea of just being with my fiance and actually getting some sleep! It was nice, but I got bored! I hated/loved it. The next morning when my aunt arrived, she called my cell to make sure I was up. I shouted "HE'S HOME!" and raced out the door(literally). I was so happy to have him home.

not when they were young, only 5 - 7 days at the most, however, what you are going through is practice for when they are older....it doesn't get easier!
