  • Baby Love - When Mommy is a Friend

K is now, as it turns out, old enough to understand the concept "friendship". The other day while we were eating lunch, he grabbed my hand, laid his head on my arm and said:

    "Mommy, you are my FRIEND!"

*sigh* My heart turned, as M would describe it "into a juicy steak" (or, as I would say, into goo). How sweet, right?

Then today, I said "is Mommy your friend?" and he goes "No, Mommy is my Mommy!" Heeee... I guess our friendship wasn't meant to last... But that's okay. "Mommy" is an honorary title to me, and I'm proud to be his mommy. Lately, he has been quite emphatic about that - he tells people "this is MY mommy!"

I can't wait for him to understand the concept "love." I think I might faint the first time he says he loves me... wow. Sometimes mommyhood is especially good.

K is scratching his chicken pox bumps now, poor thing. I hope he sleeps through the night... Better get some sleep while he's still sleeping!

What was the first time your child told you (maybe not in so many words) that he or she loved you?

My daughter is  only 14 months old, so her vocabulary is limited. But, she'll randomly come up and hug me and sometimes, if I'm lucky, give me a kiss. =D

my son is 18 months old, so he can't say much.
but today he kissed my forehead.  I think that means he loves me :)
and he always brushes my hair out of my face.

My son is only 19 months, but I think he's expressed to me that he loves me.

He can always tell if something is wrong somehow, even if I'm hiding it, because he always gives me a big hug and kiss. I think that's his way of telling me he loves me because he wants me to feel better He's the best!

I take care of three kids, ages 2 and 4.  They always express how much they love me and each other. I think he twins started saying it around 21 or 22 months. They will be turning 3 in August, and instead of just saying "I love" the words "I love you." come out plan as day. All three of the children LOVE hugging and kissing.

My daughter signs (she doesn't speak at all yet) 'I love you' to me.  She will point to her eye, then hug herself and then point to me.  She is 22 months old.  It's the cutest thing ever!

My son is four...I hear it all day long. 9 times out of 10....it comes before he asks for something he wants. But that 1 time it doesn't...that's the best.

My daughter is 22 months...we say it to her constantly and started teaching her "I love you" by pointing to our eye, then our heart, and then her. Though she forgets to do them all...when she walks up to me and points to her eye and says the respective word...I know what she means.
