Defining a Parent - Debbie Rowe and Michael Jackson's Children
Last night I watched the 2003 TV interview with Debbie Rowe about her children with Michael Jackson. I believe she clearly stated that she was only a carrier of these children for MJ and that she had no problem giving up her parental rights. She appears and stated to be very happy with her life and her decision to not be "mom".
Now that Michael Jackson has passed away, the question about who looks after the children is a hot topic, as it should! As many of us know, MJ has requested that the children's grandmother, his mother, be the children's guardian and if she is unable or unwilling then Diana Ross has been requested to be guardian. Both women have said they would take the children no questions asked. What is making this complicated is that Debbie Rowe wants the children despite never playing an active role in the children's life. Some people even speculate if the two oldest children know that Debbie is their mother!
This bring up the question: what defines a parent? Is it blood or is there more to it? I believe that blood means something if you are always playing an active role in the child/children's life. Children should be placed with adults who have shown parental skills even if they are not blood related. I have a few examples in my life when a non-biological parent has been more of an influence in a child's life than the biological parent.
What do you think defines a parent? If you also want to state your opinion on who should take care of the Jackson children GO FOR IT!

Care trumps blood, for me. I have many "blood" relatives that are such nasty people that I refuse to speak with them, period. In the event of our deaths, Megan's gaurdian is a close friend with another close friend inline behind him. A lot of leans the way of 'Raising Helen'; we want someone that would instill the values in her that we would and be somewhat like us.
Katherine Jackson should have the kids, hands down. Diana Ross would be great as well.
The Nanny should get the kids from everything I have read/heard
biology aka blood has nothing to do w/it
I think they should go to Janet, she really cares about them.
Blood does not make a good parent. From the five second clips I've seen on TV of Debbie Rowe, she honestly scares the shit out of me. I would hate to see the children who are already suffering from the grief of their father's death be placed in the care of someone who is not necessarily interested in actually caring for them.
Anyone can pop out a baby. It takes a lot more to be a parent. She shouldn't be able to get custody of those children because when the judge or lawyer said to her, "What if Michael dies?" she said, "I bet he's got a really woman in mind to take care of them." She doesn't want those children to love and provide for. She wants some of Jackson's money.
@causewehavealovesostrong@xanga - i agree with you! i find it very interesting that they have transcripts and her verbal statement in interviews stating she didn't have the children to be a mother and that she was more than happy to not be involved! so it sounds strange for her to suddenly be like "oh michael's dead, THOSE ARE MY CHILDREN AND I WANT THEM!" and not "caring" about the money. I know the judges are going to be smart and there's no way they'll separate the kids or let blood determine the outcome. Maybe the kids kinda have fame on their side because if these judges make one wrong move they could be in for some trouble.
Those children need to be kept far, far away from anyone who would further corrupt them. Just saying.
Follow the Dad's wishes, as they are reasonable and Mom played no part except birthing them
i think that the children should be taken by MJ's mother..... i think that Deebbie aimed at the money that MJ left to the children..... anyway
Rest In Peace MJ we won't forget u
U R always in our heart..... miss u so much....
Is it bad that MJ looks more like a pretty woman than she does in the picture at the top? That kind of scares me.
If the lady gave up her parental rights then there should be no asking for them back. Especially since she was so ok with it. What I want to know is
Where did this information come from? Who says that Debbie wants the kids back? The media? I want the name of the person.
What are that person's credentials to be saying this? What is in it for them? What is the background information that we even have on this? Is it conflicting with what we know?
This article does not answer any of those questions. To make a correct judgement on everything one needs to know more.
He wanted his mother to have them for a reason. As long as they don't come in contact too much with MJ's dad, though!
Blood is NOT thicker than water. My sperm donor might have contributed in creating me, but does that make him my father? Absolutely NO fucking way. He never was involved in my life, and he only hurt and humilliated me whenever he was around; so he´s just a stranger whom I have no interest in getting to know.
They should stay with their grandma, since she´s one of the persons who helped to raise them. As long as she doesn´t let MJ´s dad near them, everything should be fine.
Michael Jackson, the moonwalking former child star who became known the world over as the "King of Pop" before his life and career deteriorated in a freakish series of scandals, died, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press. He was 50.I will not set in judgement over Michael Jackson, he was a great performer, and though he was accused of being a child molester, nobody really knows if that's true, or if it was just a way for someone to make quick cash. I just want to say we can't believe all that we hear, Hollywood is full of rumors. If it's true, it's in Gods hands, not ours. I say god bless his soul and my condolences to his family & loved ones. Let him rest in peace. I never knew him personally so I can't say what he did or didn't do. He paid his dues, so be it. Farewell to a great performer. I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me, but I won't lose any sleep over the way I personally feel. So say what you will about my opinion, it's on you.
MJ was always close with his mother but I worry about his father. Everyone knows Joe was an abuser, I just hope to God he leaves his grandchildren alone.
Diana Ross would be a good guardian but I read somewhere she didnt know about the will instructions until it became public.
Considering who Michael Jackson was, I can understand why Debbie would suddenly want her children after all these years. She's a pig.
without a doubt, i think katharine jackson should have the children. they obviously have a strong bond with her--as shown at their father's memorial--and if they, in fact, do not know that debbie rowe is their mother, what good would it do for them to be with her?
Go away Debbie!!
