Water birth rocks. I had a water birth with my first homebirth and it was wonderful.

I personally would not want to do a water birth.  Mostly because I don't want stuff floating in the water with me and that is going to happen.  I have friends who have done it and given mixed reviews.  Some loved it and some didn't find it very helpful for them.

My last baby I had a home water birth!  I can't say it soothed the pain- labor at that point was INTENSE- but I will say that as painful as it was, if I had another baby I would do it again!

I was interested in a waterbirth with my last two kiddos and even had the kit and pool from my midwife in the house both times.  But my labors were just too quick to even attempt to blow up and fill the pool - I would've only been able to take a post-partum bath it it.  So for me and my two homebirthed kiddos it was dry land.  I'll take the quick labors at any rate.  :)

I'm definitely thinking I want to do a water birth for when we decide to have babies.

Omg. I can't believe I squeezed a baby out of my vagina before! And I can't believe I wanna do it again!

But, I'll stick to a hospital bed. With medicine to make all the pain go away.

I'm hoping for a water birth this time.  I've attended a ton of them at the hospital as a nurse and they are wonderful.  My first baby was not in water and I tore very badly.  I'm hoping the water will keep that from happening again with this baby.

I'm only 17 and already having been thinking about water birth when I get married!! I saw it on an episode of Private Practice. I understand it's not the same as in real life, but I just think it's a GREAT idea. It's a different environment for the baby. And not as graphic I'd think haha.

I might consider it if I have another child.  I have undergone two inductions rather than being able to go into labor on my own, so that partially plays into why I haven't done one in the past.  Having said that, I did it 100% without any pain medication (obviously I had the meds to induce labor, but nothing else).  Water birth I think would be a cinch for me, comparatively!!

I would love to have a water birth, but I'd have to do it in the hospital. Here in NE, it's illegal to have a planned home birth. 6

I would definitely consider it if any local hospitals allowed it, but they don't and homebirth is not for me!!

I would consider a water birth! A relative of mine planned on one, but unfortunately due to other circumstances, could not have one. But she did get to at least labor in the tub, and she said that brought down her pain level significantly.

@JadaFish@xanga - I second that. I'd only do if it a hospital had it. I am nervous about home births.

I want to be a midwife... I'm going to nursing school in the fall. Just throwing that out there. I love this stuff.

my mom almost did water birth but then her friend said if something goes wrong how long will you be stuck in the traffic getting to the hospital that could be the deciding factor if she rides the short bus or not

my last two were water births at home.  They were physician-attended (we went through a practice of OBs who deliver at home), but I LOVED having the comfort of being at home and the water - once I did a water birth I knew I'd never do it any other way!  My first was a hospital birth and it was a nightmare.  I have posted my birth stories before... they are out there somewhere.

I think this video is beautiful.  Though I must say for those who have not yet experienced birth, in most videos the women are naked.  I was never naked.  I mean, I was in the water, but I kept a sports bra on... I don't know.  I guess I felt like if I had to have all these people looking at my crotch, I'd at least keep a top on.  :)  Still though, surrounded by loved ones, in my own environment, was amazing.  And the water, it helps put counter-pressure on you as you are pushing, which not only helps with the pain but reduces your chances of tearing.  And my oldest son cut the cord of his youngest brother - it was beautiful.

AND, yes, you feel like "I am woman, hear me ROAR!"  when you accomplish it.  It is so incredibly empowering.  How exciting!

@mamaseahorse - Your story sounds exactly like mine.  Except that I've only had one waterbirth (so far). My first was a hospital birth and it was horrible.  I also wore a bra when I was in the tub.  :)

I LOVED my at home water birth with my second - if/when I have a third I'll do the same.  It really does help with the labor pain - the contractions I was having before I got in the tub hurt more than after.  I tore horribly in the hospital (lost so much blood I had to have a transfusion) but not at all during my home birth.
