My Son Cut His Own Hair!
by Mama Bee
I knew it was coming. All kids do it.
Right?
This morning I was doing my son's hair trying to get ready to go to the park and out for ice cream today. I figured in this 90 degree weather, that would be the best thing to do.
They took their showers and got dressed. One by one each kid came into the bathroom so they could brush their teeth and I could get their hair styled. My oldest came in first. He brushed his teeth while I grabbed the gel and began to do his hair. When he was done brushing I grabbed the blow dryer and proceeded to finish styling.
Next came in my youngest. I brushed her teeth, curled her hair and she was off.
My middle son came in started to brush his teeth. I grabbed the gel and started to style. I didn't notice anything. Not right away. It wasn't until I grabbed the blow dryer that I noticed a big chunk of hair missing RIGHT IN THE FRONT. I blow dried his hair looking to see if maybe the gel was clumping or something.
No. It wasn't.
"Did you....." I grab his hair to inspect it.
His face gets this Oh shoot I'm caught look.
"Oh my goodness. YOU CUT YOUR HAIR!?" I ask.
"Um..." he says and follows it with a shrug of his shoulders.
"You cut your hair. SON! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DID THAT!" By this time my blood is boiling.
I know exactly when it happened. This morning we were doing some arts and crafts. While he was cutting out some pictures I ran to start the dryer.
I remember when my niece and nephew both cut their own hair. My poor niece looked a hot mess and my nephew ended up getting his head shaved. My sister was beyond pissed and I remember laughing.
It's all fun and games until its your own kid.
I was planning on cutting their hair this weekend but it looks like I'll be doing it tonight instead.
My son cut his own hair, I can't believe it. It was bound to happen I guess. My mom just laughed and my husband laughed even harder when I called him at work to tell him about our son's latest move.
"You have to admit, it's pretty funny," my husband tells me.
My sister's response after I sent her a picture: "*laughing so hard she can hardly breathe*"
I suppose it is pretty funny when you think about it and look at him.
Has your kid ever cut his/her own hair? Do you remember what you were thinking when you saw it? What did your child say?

When I was three or four, I cut my brother's hair, but I never cut my own.
Like everyother little girl, I had bangs. I remember I had been asking and asking for my mom to cut them (she's a hair dresser) and she just never got around to it, so one day right before we were going to pick my brother up from school (I wasn't yet in school) I found me a pair of siccors and I high tailed it to the bathroom. I remember talking to my mom while I was doing it, even...she was in a differnt room, of course....then she walked in. I don't remember what was said but she went to her shop and got actual hair cutting scissors and fixed my bangs. I don't remember doing much damage....and in my mind I thought "I've been watching her do it for four years, surly I can do it..." lol at me, I guess.
I pretty much cut all of my hair off when I was 2. I was completely bald on the top of my head with about 2 inches around the sides (but very choppy and uneven). My mom almost died of horror and cried hysterically. It traumatized me, so I remember doing it. At least boys can get away with being bald, my mom wouldn't let me go anywhere without a hat for 6 months!
Yeah I did that when I was small, cut a huge chunk out of my fringe, had to get it all shaved off. I cut a few chunks out of my brothers too, but his was salvageable.
Oh yeah after hearing about grease which you put in your hair Itook a handful of chip oil out of the pan and smoothed my hair with it. Boy was my mother pissed, she did some frantic hair washing that day!
I cut my own hair in grade 2. I remember sneaking the scissors under my dress and took a seat at the back of the carpet during reading time. When my teacher looked down to start reading the book I took a chunk of bang off. It was pretty noticable, I thought it was the funniest thing in the world untill my teachers face got red with anger and called me to the front of the classroom to examine the damage. Caught. =)
I cut my own hair once but I don't remember my mom freaking out about it.
One question, though...
Why do you care so much about what your kid's hair looks like? Especially when you're about to go to a park and it's going to get messed up anyway.
I was teaching Sunday school when one of my students walked in with a cap on. When i asked him if he wanted to take his cap off he refused and I found it odd because usually he does. Instead he clutched on to it really tightly - his mom told me he had cut his own hair and he was really embarrassed by it. haha
nice! could ur son cut my hair for me?^.^
I cut my own hair when I was little. I think you're right; it is a phase every kid goes through. :)
Haha! When I was five, I had very long, very blonde hair with a too-long shag in the front. My dad decided my bangs had gotten WAY too long and took to cutting them himself. I can remember the look on my mom's face. Let's just say my dad is no cosmetologist . . .
I cut my sister's hair when I was four. My dad was on the computer on the other side of the room. I cut my doll's hair at the same time.
LOL! My son did the same thing right before picture day at school. I had no idea until after he got home from school that day and the pictures had already been taken.
i never did it, and neither did my two sisters, but our brother did when he was 6.
he cut a chunk right out of the front.
my mom left it like that, and he ended up getting embarrassed by it, so that was the last time he ever did it.
i really hope my son never does that.
I cut my own hair when I was 4 i think. Luckily my mom is a hairdresser. She fixed it up. I ended up looking like a boy because i cut a HUGE chunk off.
My mom. "Okay, when your sister comes out don't laugh. okay??"My brother and sister. "Okay."**I walk out.My brother and sister "HAHAHAHAHAHA"**Me.. =''(Chill, hair grows back. Don't get too mad, you'll make him feel terrible.
@EternallyNotorious@xanga - Hahaha. My brother and I tried cutting bangs on my mom's mannequin. She never let us touch it again. But now i know how.
@acst2@xanga - Haha, well you live and learn. :D
I took a huge hunk of my hair off when I was three, I was trying to cut my bangs. Salon de Jen I was not. My parents about died. Kids just are trying to find their style that is all. It is all about creativity.
I remember when I did it when I was 3yrs old (am 23 now). My mom just finished giving me a haircut and went to take a shower, when I decided that my bangs were stull too long. So, I cut them.... to the root....
When my mom came out and awa what I had done, she groaned and then snickered a bit. When I explained why I did what I did, she laughed and then said, "Hope they grow out...."
They never did grow out right...
In 1951 when I was 5 and my sister was 4 in and the baby sitter was reading a book we quietly cut each other's hair with Mom's fingernail scissors. Dad chuckled and Mom was horrified. The sitter lost a client. It is a sequence I remember.
When me and my sister were little we cut each others hair. We had 1/4in bangs for the longest time.
My 5 year old has cut his own before but it wasn't terrible and my 2 1/2 year old is just starting to figure out that you use siccors to cut things.
I totally cut my own hair, but I only did it once.
I think it's hilarious, actually.... maybe you should have left it like that, to teach him that when he does something, there are consequences, and that you won't always be there to fix it.
um . . . EVERYONE cuts their hair when they`re little :|
I didn't cut my hair when I was little - noo, I decided to try out my mom's new scissors on the kitchen drapes. Yes, they worked quite well; no, my parents did not like the stars and squares I cut out.
I did cut my hair too when I was 4.. a big chunk from the front.. and I hid it under the couch!! I My mom got so mad and she pulled me to the kitchen and she was threatening that she'll put hot pepper in my mouth and I cried and promised I'd never do it agin! (of course she was just threatening! she'd never do that) lol
my little sister though did cut some hair.. but not from her head.. her EYE BROWS!! looooooool
she looked SO FUNNY!
