Temps Will Show with Babyglow
Here’s an interesting, new invention I thought you might like to check into. It’s called the “Babyglow,” and it’s an infant bodysuit that changes colors when baby gets overheated or has a rising temperature, so parents can catch a catastrophic illness early. Not a bad idea.

HOW BABYGLOW WORKS
The photo is inventor Chris Ebejer, who says heat is invisible, so his suit changes color to make it visible. Mr. Ebejer got the idea from a documentary about babies with high temperatures, which can cause baby’s brain to shut down. High temps can also be an indication of meningitis. A father himself, Ebejer began the search for an ink pigment with heat-sensitive molecules. He worked with scientists to develop the color-changing pigments which are embedded into cotton. Your baby can’t tell you when his or her temperature is rising, but the Babyglow bodysuit can.
COLORS AND COST
Babyglows come in pink, blue and green, and they all turn white as soon baby’s temp rises above 98.6 degrees (see photo below.) I wonder if the same pigments might work and be effective in baby blankets or sleep sacks. It might get a bit costly to buy enough Babyglows to get baby through the year at about $32.50 each.

The Babyglow won’t be available until October, but there’s big buzz about this product. So what do you think? Even if they didn’t have an important and practical purpose, I think these bodysuits are pretty darn hot–and they're fantastic baby gifts!
Would you purchase it?

Sounds like a neat idea, though a bit costly. I have to say that I honestly don't think I would spend my money on them. The first thought that came to my mind, though, is that the temp at which the color changes should be higher than 98.6. You kid's temp can get higher than 98.6 without concern so it sensing that small a change doesn't seem that useful to me. Neat idea, but - like most new ideas - may need a bit of tweaking before it is great.
Too expensive. Most mommies can tell when they pick their baby up if their temperature is not right. Then you just go for the thermometer.
I aggree with sidewayslife... neat idea but needs a few adjustments. I also think that having it change colors at 98.6 is to low, especially if the person using this on their child is a first time parent. Babies tend to run slight fevers for just about everything. Having it change at that low of a temp will just flood the doctors waiting rooms for no reason. I also think it is to expensive and that most people wouldnt pay that much espeically to buy enough to keep the baby clothed in it. The blanket suggestion was a good idea I think I would be more likely to buy that... or even a toy or something. But the idea of this I think is fantastic!! ANd yes sugartomyhoney most moms can tell when their babys temp is not right but it would be nice to have something let you know its above a certian temp especially if your not right around a thermometer or if they are with a sitter :P
Interesting invention, but probably needs a few tweaks first. :) I don't know about other people's kids, but mine ran a temperature even when they were teething, and it was nothing to run to the doctor's for (esp when it only reached 99 most times). But first time parents may not understand that and this could cause needless worry and doctor's visits.
Good crap, no I wouldn't. Why spend that much on a onesie that the baby's just going to puke or poop all over? I'll buy a thermometer, thank you very much.
I am wondering how safe these 'magic' pigments are. Like all those flame retardants they put on our childrens clothes to keep them 'safe' but actually are turning out to be more dangerous than helpful.
Not a chance that I would pay $32.50 for a bodysuit for my child. When I pick my child up it is obvious if they have a high temperature, why do I need his/her clothes to tell me?
I'm sure you can email the inventer of this product your suggestions/improvments, Web address is here: http://www.babyglow.uk.com/
