"I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant"
I just finished watching a show called, "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant." Many of these women were unaware they were pregnant until they were in labour and ready to deliver the baby! One woman's baby ended up in the toilet!
It got me thinking about my experience with pregnancy. I didn't know I was pregnant until 3 months along. My friends ask me how I couldn't know and I don't really know how to answer them. The reality is, is that I just didn't notice.
How long did it take you to discover you were pregnant?

The only thing more shocking than the individual stories behind the shows are the unrealistic dramatazations. >.>
The first time? 4 weeks (which, technically, is 2 since the baby was conceived) and 5 weeks the second time.
So I REALLY don't get how people can go through most/all of their pregnancy before findnig out they're pregnant.
with S - 6 weeks
with W - 8 weeks
With C - 8 weeks
I knew for sure at 6 weeks, although I had been really observant and sort of knew I was just 4 days past ovulation.
I was about 2 months along before I suspected 3 months before I confirmed. I mostly didn't know because of my irregular cycle and because I had my period the first month.
Like the instant I missed a period. I think that people who can't figure out they are pregnant from oh, say, a BABY moving inside them are a little on the dense side.
This time, I knew the morning after we conceived.
what a stupid show . don`t you stop having your period , your gut gets big , you`re crabby , your shoes don`t fit and you gain weight ? FOR NINE MONTHS ? how the hail do they NOT KNOW they`re pregnant ? -.- it hadddd to have been SHEER DENIAL , cause any woman with a brain will know when she`s pregnant . dumbazz show . . .

A few weeks... I was on birth control pills, which really started out as a way to regulate my period, so when it didn't show up (and I didn't have health insurance at that time), I took a test "just to make sure I wasn't" and...I was! Truly though, if it weren't for being on the pills and being used to 'Flo' showing up while I was taking the brown pills? I likely would have just went about life as usual and not noticed for at least a couple of months...it's not like my period was something I ever looked forward to and anticipated, you know?
I'm not sure.
I think it was around 7 or 8 weeks, though, at the time, we thought it was over 13 weeks! I'd just gotten off the pill (I will never do hormonal birth control again!) and it had me all screwed up which threw my dates way off. And I was only on the pill for 5 months!
That show bugs me to death- people freaking out like, "OMG, there's a baby being born in the restroom and it's gonna die because it's not in the hospital! OMG!" Yeah, I can see that being a worry if the baby came really early, but in most of those cases it's not. It just bugs me.
You'd think that while we are so busy giving teenagers their comprehensive sex education we could throw in a few lessons about the childbirth process and how it's natural and the human body (most bodies, at least) is made to do it- just like sex!
I'm paranoid so I noticed the first month. lol. When I got my first sonogram (after taking those take-home pregnancy test) I was 3 weeks pregnant. I caught myself quickly.
I knew at five weeks with both pregnancies. I saw the show too, and I couldn't help but laugh. One of the woman saying she had really bad gas, but it was really the baby kicking. I'm sorry, but I'm 8 months pregnant right now, and there is NO way of mistaking these kicks for gas. This baby kicks me in the ribs, there is no other explanation! Lol. I think all these women were in extreme denial. They probably all deep down knew that they were pregnant.
I believe that they didn't know. Some women are fairly heavy to start with, or really just don't show much. And especially if they think they have just really bad gas they'd also think they were bloated - accounting for a slight bulge at the waist. Also, some women keep having light periods throughout pregnancy. Why would you think you're pregnant if you keep having periods?
I don't know when I would have figured out I was pregnant if I hadn't been feeling "off" and gone to the doctor to have my thyroid checked. (I have hypothyroidism but became hyper when I got pregnant). However, I probably would have figured out SOMETHING was going a couple weeks after I went to the doctor and i started throwing up all the time.
For the next one I'm not too worried about figuring out I'm pregnant. I know I'll figure it out eventually and will have plenty of time to get everything in order. I'm not one to test 3 seconds after my period is "late". (Though I haven't even had one since my son was born 16 months ago).
For my daughter I didn't realize I was pregnant until I was almost 4 months. I kept getting "periods" and didn't think anything of the change in them. For my son I was 7 weeks when I found out.
about 4 wks for both. morning sickness kicked my booty...ok, it wasn't too bad, but i'm a wuss.
2 months. But only because my period isn't regular. So I when I skipped the first month, I didn't think about it. But I never skip 2 months in a row. And I did. So I knew.
I found out when I was 6 weeks along.
With my son, weird as this sounds, I knew the morning after. I was in denial about it for a while, though, even though I knew.
With my second, I was about 5 weeks. I hadn't noticed anything other than being obscenely happy all the time, which other people commented on, so I took a test.
The moment it happened! lol No, but kind of... I have a 6th sense about these things and I usually know when I've conceived... and once my period is missed, then I take a test- and it's confirmed.
I had a cousin that didn't know she was pregnant. She was told that she was infertile. She didn't gain very much weight (5-10 pounds), and she still menstruated the whole 9 months. She went to the emergency room with severe stomach pains, and they thought it was her appendix. I'm just happy she isn't a drinker! Healthy baby, and they were both excited when the shock wore off :)
My mom didn't find out she was pregnant with me until I was born at 24 weeks premature (this was back when she was 16 in 1987). I think she had her period the entire time she was pregnant with me. With my brother she didn't know she was pregnant with him until 6 months pregnant (she didn't actually find out until she went to the doctor). She had just gotten off birth control 6 months prior to finding out she was pregnant with him). He is now a happy healthy 7 year old boy. I think some women just don't have pregnancy symptons at all through their pregnancy. Others like my mom may have just gotten off birth control and didn't get a period so they thought it was just their body adjusting. Believe it or not some women DO get their period the entire time they are pregnant and their kids turn out fine. I was sick though and had to stay in the hospital 9 months and had to get heart surgery (I still have the scar on my left side). Some women just never register positive on a pregnancy test. I've never been pregnant. Quit ttc 5 months ago. 4 BFNs. Actively tried for 29 months and 30 periods.
With both my daughters I confirmed it at about 5 weeks. Â With my second, I knew way sooner, but didn't want to test too early.
That show is insane!
@BellaBacio@xanga - i know a woman who had PCOS, rarely got her period, and lost weight when she was pregnant. she didnt know until she got preeclampsia. it's easier than you think to not know.
I knew at 3 weeks.
Hopefully.. when I do get pregnant (long way to it lol. im only 15) I'll know right away..
when i went to my first appt i was 13 weeks. i thought i was preggo earlier and took an oops but the test said i wasn't preggo. >.<
even funnier is my sister in law had the same problem with the same test [we were preggo at the same time]
