Mama Fox How do you get away with skipping classes on your last day of school?
Make sure you get your hands on a presidential pardon.
President Barack Obama held a town hall meeting on Thursday in Green Bay, Wisconsin to discuss his health care agenda — but he also took a little time to write an all-important "get out of school" note.
A young girl named Kennedy attended the town hall with her father, who was called on to ask a question.
Her father, John Corpus, started his query saying he hoped his daughter wouldn't get into trouble for missing the last day of school.
"Do you need me to write a note?" Obama asked.
Clearly assuming that Obama was just kidding, Corpus continued with his question — only to be interrupted by the president.
"No, no, I'm serious. What's your daughter's name?" Obama said, as he started to write a note. "I'm going to write to Kennedy's teacher."
He then walked over to the girl and handed her the note: "To Kennedy’s Teacher, Please excuse Kennedy’s absence…she’s with me. Barack Obama"
No word yet on whether the president's get out of school free card did the trick.
Article with the video of it. Xanga won't let me embed it.
That was pretty awesome there Barrack. And of course, she said that she's going to keep the note but before she frames it, she'll make a copy for her teacher.

I thought we were suppose to work on education, not hand out "get out of school free cards" lol jk that is pretty cool what he did.
Haha. What an awesome souvenier for her! And, with technology, she'll have the video to go with it!
aww nice ! ^__^
nice black guy ....
that was pretty cool of him to do that. man, i would sell that on ebay for 10,000 usd
very classy! I wonder if the school will accept it, though?? They have very clearly informed us that illness is the only EXCUSED absence! haha.
Well, at least she was at a town hall meeting, learning about politics.
That's more than my schools ever taught me. I had to teach myself.
That pretty neat.
haha id like a note like that.
haha thats so cool. If I were her I'd feel so special.
that freakin cracks me up. Only because if this girl were to be 16 or 17 yrs old, it just wouldn't sound right.
Awe. Nice gimmick.
thats super legit and i'm jealous of that girl.
I don't think that is cool at all. I don't think the President, of all people, should excuse a child skipping school. It sends the wrong message and shows how much he thinks of education. I'm glad he could pull some more publicity out of that though.
@bravehsgirl@xanga - quit being a killjoy, please.
@x__flipped@xanga - Well, I have 5 children ages 12 to 4 and I don't want any of them to grow up thinking it is OK to skip school for any reason. I didn't even skip my senior skip day. That isn't being a kill joy it's being a responsible parent and role model. So please keep the juvenile name calling for high school kids.
She skipped her LAST DAY of school, which usually consists of popsicles and/or movies for 4th graders, to go to a huge political meeting. She probably learned more there than she has all year in her social studies class. And GREAT! You didn't skip on your senior skip day. But that doesn't change any of my opinions.@bravehsgirl@xanga -
@x__flipped@xanga - Some people will just do anything they can to find a reason to rip on the President.
@bravehsgirl@xanga - Agreed.
@x__flipped@xanga - What does it matter if it's the last day, or the first day, or some middle random day OR what that day might usually consist of (cause face it, you don't know you're just speculating). The fact of the matter is, she's a child and the only obligation of children are to attend school... not appease your whimsical exaggerations of how that one day vastly educated her more than a year of social studies or condone behavior solely on the basis of it being the 'last day.' Not a valuable contribution of values or moral development.
/end devil's advocate.
Going to school is not the obligation of children. Education is the responsibility of the parent. She was with her parent, who was choosing how he wanted to educate her that day. I certainly would have made the same choice for my kids.
I think she learned alot more in going to the town hall meeting. I've worked in the school system as well as my parents. The schools stop grading and really stop teaching at least 2 weeks before the end of the school year. She gained more knowledge during that conference than anywhere else.
The fact that this little girl witnessed her Father called on by the President to ask a question relating the future of our country is FAAAAR more valuable, memorable and mentoring than ANYTHING she would have accomplished on the last day of school. As parents we are our children's first and primary teachers. They learn by watching, following and immitating what they see and hear from us. The education little Kennedy got by watching her father interact with the President of the United States is immense and priceless, regardless of what you think of Barak Obama personally.
The note is really cool, and if I were that girls father, I would have brought her along too. However, I think that this was another example of President Obama forgetting that he is not a celebrity, but rather, the leader of a nation. Image is important, like it or not.
lol
Aww that's cuuute
