  • I Love it When They're Funny

    Mama Elephant by Mama Elephant

Set Up:  Most of Alex's speech is "scripted".  He learns certain words and phrases and rarely substitutes.   We get into this dangerous place of assuming that he has a very limited vocabulary and can't improvise or be spontaneous.

A few minutes ago, Ron (my husband) was sitting on his side of the couch watching a movie with me when Alex came along and used his scripted language of "Get up.  I want computer."  Ron told Alex to take the laptop over to the love seat and Alex refused.  Ron moved the laptop over to the love seat and Alex stole his dad's seat.  Ron told him to go over to the love seat and Alex refused so Ron sat on Alex's lap.  Alex said, "Get up." Ron refused.  Then, Alex pointed his finger at his father and said, "Naughty, Naughty boy." This is made even funnier to me because we (the people around him) don't use the word "naughty" and we have never called Alex naughty.  We have no idea where he learned it.

I love it when my kids are funny.  I love it even more when Alex reminds me that he is more than he seems to be.
