My boys are 8 & 10 and they still cannot wait for me to read to them each night.  Sometimes our days can get so hectic that we forget how much our children miss us during the day.  This time of sharing and conversation "fills up our pitcher" so we have more ability to give (and give in) the next day.

Our boys love the funny books like Walter the farting Dog and the Stinky Cheesehead man...but they love chapter books like Charlotte's Web and Magic Treehouse stories too.  But their FAVORITE stories are the ones they make up themselves and we capture in their journals.

And what a gift to be bale to go back to those stories with THEIR children in many, many years (if I give them up :o))

I'm 16 and I don't have any children but I do have a lot of little cousins. I LOVE reading to them, ahha. My boyfriend has a 1 year old sister who loves it when I read to her. One of her friends was over and she made me read all of the books. It makes me feel good to be able to read to them.

My mom always read to me even before I was born. I even remember her sitting on the couch reading to my little brother before he was born. I think it helps develop language skills and it made me into a great student and someone who LOVES to read!

@RaisingEinstein - That's such a great idea to make journals! My little brother loves books about ww2. He always brings those home from the library!

My daughter (2yo) is a bookworm like me. She loves to read...more when she was a little younger. Now she's a little more active.

Oh yeah. We've been reading to our 8 month old since before she was born. She gets really excited when you whip out a book, and she likes to "help" turn the pages.

MIL gave her a book for Christmas that she used to read DH when he was little. It was actually the first book he ever read by himself (at age 2). He reads it to her every night and sometimes during the day, she'll find it and bring it to him. He must stop whatever he's doing and read it to her. I'm not allowed to read it, though. It's their thing.

Before he deploys, we have to get video of him reading it, so I can show it to her.

What kid doesn't enjoy story time?!?!  lol  :D
My kids are ages 9, 7, 6, 3, and 6 months.  They ALL love it, even my 9 year old.
They are at different ages and stages.. but basically my older 3 are all girls, we used to do stories like Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein, and the more traditional books... lately though we're into chapter books, we love My Weird School Daze series- we have almost all of them.
My younger two are boys, my 3 year old is mostly read "potty" books (lol yup we're potty training), but I also read him 1st grade easy reader books to help him recognize letters/words.
My 6 month old is usually on my lap when I read to my 3 year old... but I also read him colorful books- Dora and Yo Gabba Gabba are his faves (the 3 year old loves those too).

Niether of my kids sat still for story time until they were two and a half. After that their favourites changed every week.

Mine love to read and love to be read to. They have been read to since they were born. If they really love the book, they want it read over and over.  Then they will pretend that they are reading it and it is surprising how close it is. We have accumulated a tremendous fabulous library at great discounts and lots of them free. I have lots that help with their hand and eye co-ordination that help toddlers learn how to turn the pages correctly from left to right and are age appropriate for them. They love the Body Science Series which are so cute. The sticker books are fun but educational also.  Lots of coloring books, search books, activity books...  Authors are so creative. It's a dream to be able to write childrens books.
