  • Have Your Fun and Eat It Too! Feeding Your Children Dirt

The one thing my kids love more than doing special projects.. is eating. So cooking projects give you the best of both, plus will hopefully give you at least an hour or so without having to hear, "I'm bored!". Try these fun and easy projects with your little ones.

    DIRT!

Have Your Fun and Eat It Too!

What could be better than playing in the dirt? Eating it! This was one of my favorites when I myself was a kid.

To do this craft you will need plastic cups, chocolate pudding (homemade or store bought), Oreo cookies - crushed up, and gummy worms. Simply place the chocolate pudding in the bottom of a plastic cup and sprinkle crushed Oreo cookies on top. Place the gummy worms however you like, either down into the pudding, crawling around on top, or off to the side.

    PUDDING PAINT

Make finger painting even more fun! Take vanilla pudding and add food coloring to make your favorite colors. This is most convenient in the store bought cups, as you can mix the different colors inside each small cup. Use either wax paper or a thicker paper such as card stock or poster board. Regular paper wont stand up as well to the pudding and may rip.

    MAKE YOUR OWN PIZZA

While I can't promise this will be the best tasting pizza you've ever had, your kids will enjoy it nonetheless! Check your grocery store for a homemade pizza kit such as the Chef Boyardee variety. It comes with everything you will need. For added fun, shape the dough into fun shapes such as a heart or triangle and use toppings to create a face.

    PEANUT BUTTER PLAY DOUGH

This is a favorite of my daughters, and there are many recipes available but this particular one is a copy cat of the Disney restaurant Coral Reef's play dough. For this recipe you will need peanut butter, white corn syrup, powdered sugar and powdered milk.

Mix 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup white corn syrup, and 1 cup powdered sugar together in a large mixing bowl. Add 3 cups of powdered milk and knead until smooth, adding more if necessary. Add food coloring or leave as is!

What cooking projects do you enjoy doing with your kids? Do you have any favorites that you did as a kid?
