  • Potty Training is NOT for the Weak!

Somedays I feel I will be potty training for the rest of my life. And while this is a discouraging thought, I suppose it's better than changing diapers for the rest of my life!
In fact, this morning, for the first time in 3 years, I changed one less and it felt GREAT! My little girl has been toying with the idea of wearing her undies to bed for some time now and last night she took the plunge and succeeded. I can't describe to you the partying that has ensued! We've been dancing, singing, high-fiving and eating popcorn for breakfast (that was her request and I was happy to oblige after our victorious night!).

I know - to all you mamas wiping bums right now it sounds fabulous! But this celebration is hard earned and comes after many months of struggle. During that time I've read a stack of books, wiped up a river of wee and lost several hours of sleep over it. And now that I've got two potty trained children under my belt, I can tell you one thing for sure:

No Two Children Potty Train The Same

Which brings me to the conclusion that the best tip I can pass along when it comes to ditching diapers is to LISTEN! Hear out and consider every piece of advice that passes your way becauase you never know what's going to come in handy or be the technique that insipres your toddler to get the job done.

Recently I've been offering up my insights on Potty Training over at Type-A Mom and would love to have you check out my articles, in case my experiences might be of some use to you. Please stop by if you have a moment and let me know what you think!

Every time you get them to dooky in the potty add ten dollars to their college fund. That will motivate them. Every time they mess their pants deduct ten dollars from their spring break party money.

Come on! This is no brainer stuff!

I didn't get to go to college. Barely had enough for VoTech. I became a plumber and install toilets. How ironic.

Amen on the loving and hating potty training.  I thought I would never be done training.  We're still not completely done with night training, but I never thought I'd see the day when he was day trained and FINALLY, he's there.

It took me about two days to get potty-trained. No lie, my mother told me the story. Jaja!

My son is about to turn 4 in June and he still wets his bed most nights (he still wears pull-ups most nights b/c I just can't stand washing the sheets every morning!)  But I'm just thrilled that he's potty-trained during the day!  And my two year old daughter has started going to the potty a few times a week....maybe she will potty-train faster than her brother (he was over 3 years old before he potty-trained)

It took me telling my son that he was going to be a big brother to get him day trained. He was 4 then. He's 5 now & we're still having a ton of problems with the night training. He'll go an entire month without an accident & I'll think that he's finally done with them & he'll start wetting the bed again. He'll get there eventually. All I know is that I'm not having another kid just to get my daughter potty trained. lol.

Boys seem to take longer.  My son has just trained in the last few weeks - he turned 3 2 weeks ago - it was a battle.... and I have another boy to train (not for a few years though!)

I have been taking potty training slowly and not getting my hopes up. I tried persistantly when my son was 18-months-old because he enjoyed the little potty we bought him. He didn't take to it, and actually pushed us away with it. So I stopped and tried again in a few months... and have been doing it every few months until now. He is almost 2 1/2-years-old and is almost potty trained. I am excited. He wears diapers to bed still because we have not had any success with it. I have just been taking it slowly. I invested in some plastic undies (used them only a few times, because he doesn't like them). But when we go out, we take him to the bathroom everytime we go into a store and everytime we leave... and most times he will let us know he has to use the potty. We did have a week where he regressed because he got really sick and had the runs so bad it hurt everytime he went to the bathroom. But I think he is pretty much there... we are just trying to get him to understand when he has to poop. He still has yet to go to the bathroom and poop on his own, but pees all the time by himself. And he prefers the big potty instead of his little potty chair we bought him. Who knew! Haha. We just let him do it the way he wants... and sometimes he doesn't even want us in the bathroom and shuts the door on us... and we hear him flush and get all excited. He is growing up so fast!

i just started potty training my son recently. hes two and a half. hes doing great. but only because he is so stuck on himself and loves to walk around all day saying *im potty training. im only wearing shorts. im such a good boy! i pooped in the potty* lol. he tells everyone. he picked it up right away. but he still wears diapers during naps and at night. im so proud of him though. my niece is two and a half months younger and i think she is going to have a harder time. she doesn't even like to sit on the pot. and i babysit her five days a week but i told my sister shes going to have to work her butt off with her cause im not going through trying to start her off too.

i started my son early. right after his first birthday.  I got him a potty chair that talks, and he gets a sticker on his chart when he goes.  He's 15 months old now, and he still isn't potty trained, but he uses it at least once a day.  I think he's just starting to realize he should go there instead of his diaper.  hopefully we'll be done by the time he turns 2
