QOTD - When Did You Get Your First Car?

At what age did you get your first car? Did your parents buy it for you or did you buy it yourself? Will you buy your kids their first car? When?

I was 16. We bought it from a family friend. My mom paid for part of it, I paid the rest.
I think most likely we will help them out a bit with their cars but no, we won't fully cover it. It'll happen whenever they are ready to handle the costs.
I was 18. My parents got it for me....typical Asian/Chinese thing to do. I wish they would have taught me to save up for it, and at least pay for part of it. We'll pay for part of the car for the kids...who knows? The 2nd one's not even born yet.
I was 16, but it was my mom's car first then I got it and she got a newer car. Then at 19 my parent's bought me a newer/nicer car that will last me until I'm able to buy my own car. They did the same thing for my older sister and kept the cars around the same year or price range with inflation since she is 10 years older than me. Haha
I was almost 17. My grandparents got it for me. It hasn't been very good and currently dies everytime I come to a complete stop (the RPMs just bottoms out. If I could I would like to help my kids get their cars, maybe I pay half and they pay half or something.
When I was 15 1/2 my dad bought me a 1973 Maverick for $300. I wish I still had that car. It was fast!!
Last May. It was a joke that I dated my now-husband because he had a car. But that car was in an accident last April and we bought a replacement for it in May. That is the first car that has even had my name on the title.
I got my first car at 14, my parents bought it for me as an easter gift. It was an 86 Camaro sport coupe, 5 speed. I think I drove it .5 miles in the 5 years I had it, because when I was 16, I bought my first car I drove on the road - an 84 Camaro Z28 5 speed. My dad paid for it up front and I paid him back for it while working.
Not having kids, so I wont be buying anyone else cars haha.
16...I'd started a part-time job at 15 for the sole purpose of saving up for one. It was a '92 Explorer Sport...not the little green convertible I had [still have] my eye on. (Funny how somethings don't change over the course of 10+ years. lol.) Unless we become unexpectedly, independently wealthy...we'll just be helping out with the kids'...especially since we'd now have three to buy for.
When I was 17 and I purchsed it myself. I've bought my oldest two cars and with the first she ran away two days before I gave it to her so I sold it and the second her boyfriend told her she didn't need a car.
With my younger one, I'll most likely buy her a car as well
I got my first car when I was 18 about 2 days after I started University.It's a 95 toyota corolla and I still drive it. However I really need to get a new one.
I technically still don't have a 'first car'. I drive my mom's, but I guess its sort of mine because she works at home so I drive more often than she does. If that counts, I got my first car at 17 (when I got my license). Otherwise, I still don't have my own car and my parents are buying me one as a wedding gift next October (at age 21).
I would love to be able to buy my children a car of their own. When they got it would be a matter of how responsible they are and how much I can trust them at age 16/17, not to mention if we could afford it. But I would love to do that for them.
16, it was a 91 Ford Tempo and I had to pray it wouldn't shut off when I stopped at a stop sign or a light. At 18 I bought my current car which is a 2000 Grand Am.
I was 15. My dad bought the car, but I made payments to him. Then when I was 16 or 17 my dad cosigned for me to purchase a car that I paid for. When I was 21 I purchased a car on my own.
I intend on helping my kids out like my dad helped me out. I will not be handing my kids a car as I don't think that teaches them anything.
I was 23...it was a college graduation gift from my parents! Before then, i just shared a car with family members.
I was 16 and my dad bought me a '99 Mustang... I was so spoiled. I will probably do the same for my own kids if I am in a position to do so. It might be a little much, but I turned out ok. I am completely responsible, know how to work for something, and totally appreciate things in life. I didn't need to buy my own car to learn those things. I guess I feel a need to do for my kids what my amazing parents did for me.
I was 20, and I gave the majority of my bonus for it. Before that, I rode a bicycle. My legs looked better when I rode the bicycle.
I got my first car when I was 18, but never actually drove it until I was 19, because I didn't have my license til then. I still have it now, and I'm lucky because my grandparents pay for it.
My dad bought my car from a friend as a favor and it kinda just became mine because I'm the only kid to bother to get their license so far and then I took off with it and never came back lol. I've had it three years now and it still isn't in my name, but make no mistake it is definitely my car and no one else's!
Depending on how the future turns out, I'll probably have the same plan my dad did of buying one little nothing-fancy vehicle for my kids to all share until they can afford their own. They can learn to drive but I won't have to worry about handing over the keys to my more-expensive car for them to do so.I am 20, and I still havent got my own car yet
Ha, i wish my parents would have helped me buy a car. F***ers can't even pay their own bills, let alone help with a car.

The first car that I owned was the car that my FIL bought hubby and me for our wedding. I was 19. Before that, I just drove my parents cars and can't say it ever really bothered me.
I can't say that we have thought much about getting cars for our kids. I think that we would maybe help them buy one, but definitely not outright buy it for them. (Unless it is a wedding gift) :)not yet.. :D
16. i didnt buy it though, we just had it, so i dont consider it mine.

20. got it after a car accident where some idiot hit me but before that i was driving my sisters or my parents car. i didnt have a car in HS though=torture.
