Park Seaon Begins for My Children and Me
Spring is in the air. (Well, not in the Midwest, because it's going to be about 22 degrees tonight.) And, with the first buds of spring, the first bird (at my place, a bright red cardinal), and the lengthening of days...comes a new season. My friends, from the single to the young family, to the co-worker who remembers the last time the 'Home Team' made the playoffs...they see it as baseball season.
But, for me, it's a different season.
Park season.
It officially begins the day before Easter, when my wife and I go driving throughout the county in search of the best Easter Egg Hunts. It ends...the day Daylight Savings Time ends, when the hour of sleep you got back gets its payback with sunset at 5:19PM.
With four close children (9, 7, 6, 5), the weekends become a hunt throughout the county (and the city on the other side of the river) for the best parks. The best slides. The best super-structures.
Time with Daddy.
Time in the great outdoors.
Time to run around and enjoy life.
Time to give their Mommy a much-needed break.
Time to get dozens of pictures of the kids who make my life wonderful.
It reminds me that, although being the breadwinner is an important part (in my mind) of fatherly duties, that I'm not just the guy who brings home a paycheck...I'm my children's daddy.
What special activity do your children have with their dad?

he takes him to the park, library, bookstore, or the museum.
it's nice to read about a father who likes to spend time with his kids.
my dad split long ago.
My husband takes our girls to the library often. We are a home schooling family and he takes the math lessons with the oldest a lot. She likes that he spends that time with just her. And he is good at sitting with them in the mornings to let mommy get a little sleep!!
well the kid part will be in a stroller mom and dad will be walking ! once the wheather permits
reading and music time.
Well, since I'm massively pregnant, my hubby has taken over all bath duties for our son. I love sitting in the room beside the bathroom and listening to them play, talk, and sing. DH spends as much time on the weekends with DS, too: park time, run around in the front yard time. My husband is great with our son and I love to watch them interact!
My husband takes our son to the zoo almost weekly - it's their special father-son time. (Our son is almost two). Now that the weather is warming up, we're going to buy him a soccer ball so he can learn to play soccer in the park.
Since my husband is a musician, music time is shared (he does the German songs, I do the Dutch ones).
Oh, and of course he will have to teach K to ride his tricycle (and soon, a bicycle with training wheels) - we do live in Holland after all!
