Product Review: My New ERGObaby Carrier
by Mama Pig Like many people I made a New Year's Resolution to become more active and try and get a little exercise into my busy days. As the mother of eight children; that can prove to be difficult. We live in an amazing area that has many trails to hike and that sounded like a great idea. While the older children are in school, the two younger ones and myself can take a nice nature walk. The problem was in finding something that could accommodate my new desires and still be comfortable to use.
I had tried a few other of the baby carriers and they were all too stiff for what I needed. I then discovered the ERGObaby_carrier. Unlike many other carriers; this one is designed not just for front or back carrying, but also adjusts to allow you to place your child on your hip. For me, that was the biggest selling point. My daughter loves her "seat" that is my hip and having something that would help alleviate the strain on my arms was fantastic. My daughter is two now, but still falls well below the forty pound weight limit and she loves being near me while we do household chores. Yes, you read that right. I wear the carrier around the house as well due to the comfortable design.
It just gets better. They also have a small pack; almost like a fannypack, but far more stylish; that fits onto the carrier. It is great for those hikes I mentioned. I can put my car keys and cell phone inside and just loop it onto the bottom. No more worries about how to carry the extras without losing track of them. Also, they carry a backpack that can attach to the back of the carrier. It is roomy enough to hold water and snacks while we are out hiking. It is also a great alternative to taking the stroller to places such as Sea World. Using the ERGObaby carrier takes the strain off my arms and back as well as the stress of maneuvering a stroller through a large crowd of people.
My one complaint is really a silly one, but one that bears mentioning. While I am not a heavy woman, I have given birth to five children and my hips are a bit wider than they once were. The straps were adjustable, but I really think adding even a bit more on to allow for those that aren't the straight up and down body type would be a nice improvement.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend this product to any mothers; and fathers; that are looking for a way to become more active and want to include the children in the activities. They come in an array of colors and the black one is manly enough for even my husband to wear. We have used it at the beach, in the mountains, and at the amusement park. If you are looking for the perfect carrier; I think I found it. ERGObaby_carriers.

Loved this review. I actually use a carrier designed by my mom. I haven't attempted using it on my back yet but it's great from newborn through toddler sizes (and muscle control) and can be used as a rear-facing front carrier, front facing front carrier, side carrier (either side) and can also be used to hold a baby while nursing (my mom would nurse us while walking around anywhere - i haven't mastered, or even attempted, that).
This carrier sounds great though. And the color selection is a plus!
We also have a backpack carrier for hikes, etc. :) We aren't really stroller people.
I have an Ergo and absolutely love it. I took care of a second baby while i stayed home and the Ergo allowed my to go grocery shopping and take walks with both babies without a double stroller. I love my Ergo and would recommend it to anyone.
i have an ergo too! love it so much. way better than the baby bjorn. that thing nearly kill my back.
Thanks for the info! Have been considering it as 2 of my girlfriends love theirs. About to have my 2nd baby, and my 1st will be almost 2 when he/she is born. Don't want a double stroller, so this sounds like a good option. Got a cheap front carrier as a gift last time, and don't like it. Causes back pain. Your post was very helpful and may have just put me over the edge! (Also, I hope to have more babies, so why not make the investment?!)
It looks very sturdy, but lighter than some I have seen. Thanks for the review. I will have to look into this.
ergo for me....
I tried 4 other carriers before finding the ErgoBaby. I LOVE it! All the reasons you mention. It's awesome.
I do agree... the waist strap could be a little longer. But the other benefits certainly outweigh that slight complaint.
I love my Ergo! I have a really bad back and I've tried other carriers but they put too much strain on my back. I love the Ergo b/c the support is in the hips (not the shoulders, or the back like most carriers). And the hood is key for sleeping babies! I agree with putting more length on the hip strap. My husband just barely fits while adjusting it all the way to the ends.
i've been considering a hotsling, namely because it looks like baby can lay down or sit up in addition to being carried front or hip, but this does look like a really good getup. hmmm.
