  • Creative Dinosaur Fossil Birthday Cake

    Mama Fox by Mama Fox

I spent most of my morning on Sunday to make a dinosaur fossil cake for my son's 5th birthday party. The party failed (two families were sick and the other accidentally took a late afternoon nap...). But the cake still turned out awesome and my boys loved it.

The cake was simple. It was just a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting (which I made from scratch but you don't have to be as domestic as me.) I put some cinnamon graham crackers (chocolate would work as well) in a big ziplock bag and had the kids crush them up. It took a bit of work to get the cake covered but hey, it's supposed to be dirt, it doesn't have to be perfect. The bones are just shapes I cut from sugar cookie dough.

One cool part about my cake? It was 99% vegan. The only thing that wasn't was that I didn't have enough vegan butter to make the sugar cookies. I just didn't eat that part.

With the failed party I completely forgot to get pictures of the kids stuffing their faces. I may just have to make it again if we try to reschedule their party.

Have you done any creative cakes for your kids?
