  • Note To Self... Make a List

As a mom, I am sometimes very unorganized. (Who would've known?)

I forget things at the grocery store. I wish I had time to sit and make appointments for the month, and actually remember them. I want to plan out every trip, event and school function I can.

That's where my husband's pet peeve comes in: my "To Do Lists". I have them for everything. Meals for the week, ideas for travel, items we're running low on, and my wish list.  The thing is, I cannot live without them!

If I didn't make lists, I'd feel even more overwhelmed.  My little sticky notes to myself make my days easier. And face it, after taking care of 2 children under 5 years old, I could use a dose of easy.

Moms, do you make "To Do Lists?" What other ways help you stay organized?

I am also a list maker that has turned my daughter into a list maker. This makes my husband extra cranky, which makes it even more fun :)

I absolutely do "To Do" lists!!  I've gone to the grocery store without a list and I'm not kidding I was so lost it was ridiculous!!  I even have checklists for items to pack when we go on trips...including a clipboard!!  My husband laughs at me and calls me obsessive but he lets me continue in my ocd world!

I have a list for everything, and then I have to program my phone to remind me to check my list. LOL

on occasion i make "to do lists."  Recently i made a list of 101 goals to complete in 1001 days- some fun goals, some serious goals.  I'm having fun chucking away at it =)

In college i constantly made to do lists. t hey worked really well for me.  i should start doing that again

On my to-do list is to make a to-do list. haha I have many. Without them I wouldn't stay sane.

I tell my friends "if it's not in my dayplanner, it never happened."

love the to do lists...i also can't do without the pocket calender that i carry in my purse...really inexpensive from Wally World, and it has two years in it, plus a "notes" section that you can write everything down in! :)

Almost everything we do is broken down into the kind of steps you might see on a ToDo list and I personally think it's great that you make the effort.

My mother, bless her, is close to 60 and plays World of Warcraft on a daily basis. However there are some things computer (and sometimes game) related that she finds hard to fully commit to memory and so relies on ToDo style lists to ensure what needs to be done, gets done.

Come to think of it, if 'us guys' would just admit we forget far too much stuff and wrote them ourselves, we would probably be less frustrating to deal with

Hey, us men need lists to.  I mean we can only do one thing at a time. But we forget what the next thing to do is.

I do lists, too. I have a planner that holds my packing list for trips (the lists are in see-through plastic sleeves so I can check them off with a dry-erase marker, and wipe them off and reuse them later). That's a trick I learnt from www.Flylady.org

I try to keep my To Do lists organized in one folder (I have one for finance, one for the home we  just bought, etcetera). I also keep wish lists for me, my son, and one for my husband - so I'll know what to buy when his birthday rolls around.

Without my lists, I can't sleep - basically, that is the reason I keep them. If I don't write it down, I lie awake at night worrying about forgetting something... I know, I'm a total control freak.

What also keeps our family running (semi-)smoothly is our family calendar. I put all our appointments on there, and I use a highlighter to mark the events I need to find a babysitter for - that way I'll know how many days I need a sitter.

Finally, since we are buying a home, I set up a spreadsheet for our family finances - it takes the "I wonder how much money we'll have left at the end of the month?" worry out of my head. Again: control freak central here, do you read me?
