Mama Fox (Before anyone asks veg*n is the online acronym for vegetarian and/or vegan. It's just easier to type, nothing about it being censored.)
So, I know there has to be at least one or two of y'all around. If I am seriously the only veg*n mama here that is depressing. Haha! Which by the way, I am one grocery trip away from being fully vegan.

Anywho, I am gearing up to write a blog about raising vegetarian children and I would love to have some personal stories from you. Just a paragraph or two, maybe a book/website recommendation and/or a favorite recipe. Nothing too complicated. I would really appreciated it!

I have been vegetarian most of my life. I wouldn't mind being vegan but I like my ice cream too much (cheese too). *sigh* I think it's a lot easier to be vegetarian and raising vegetarian children than lots of people think. Sure, sometimes when I'm at a restaurant I don't really want one of the three vegetarian options available but being healthy is more important for me in the long run.
The hardest part about giving my child a vegetarian diet has been the added DHA in so many baby foods! I'm not against DHA (obviously) but I do not like that it nearly always comes from fish oil. I cringe at the thought of feeding my baby fish oil.
My husband, raised vegetarian, had a doctor who did not feel being a vegetarian was healthy at all. She would regularly question their diet. However, her daughter soon became vegetarian and eventually she admitted that this family of vegetarians was just as healthy, if not more so, than other families.
I have a nice selection of vegetarian recipes that any meat-eater will find equally as delicious. Would love to share...but am running out of time here.
My godmother is strict vegan. She had a huge impact on my dietary preferences. I am nearly Vegan but I still like my cheeses. I also am a caterer so I have to handle and taste test the meat dishes I cook. I have lots of great vegan recipes though and love to use them. I let my niece I am raising make her own choice about whether or not to eat meat. Most of the time she chooses to eat what I eat.
I'm not a mom, but I am a veggie kid, and I absolutely love that you are writing a blog about it. I have a friend who was raised vegetarian, and she's always done well without eating meat. I think it's great that parents open the spectrum about their childrens' diets, as long as it's healthy and beneficial to the kids. I've been vegetarian, on-off vegan, for almost two years now, and I think if I had been educated about and introduced to a veg*n diet earlier on, I would have made the switch way before 15. It's helped so much with my weight issues and my allergies. Even my doctor backed me up on the decision.
All in all, major props to you for being an awesome mama!
I'm a vegetarian and my husband is not. My daughter has been mostly vegetarian so far (she's 2). I would welcome a vegetarian post!
I am vegan and my daughter is a lacto-vegetarian. It is hard work to stop grandparents from feeding her meat, but she has been raised on a solid veggie diet for her 2.5 years so far
It would be great to see a veggie post! I sometimes post recipes as well if thats your thing..
So what do you feed besides chz pizza, grilled chz & fries or nugget(yuck) and fries, thats all my kid will eat, no meat except processed nuggets/patties. So we are called hyprocrate vegetarians by her dad. She ate a lot better up until the last 2-3 months. Now she don't want salads or anything but what I listed above. And I hate cooking so I am probably not the best influence. She doesn't like my veg stir fry either anymore. i have to admit we eat out alot bcuz I hate and/or stink at cooking. I need recipes. EASY recipes, without all those weird /fancy ingredients most veg*n site list. oh she'll eat mashed/baked potatoes too. and corn, carrots. lots of veggies I think if they were cooked right but I wreck everything so the dog doesn't even want it.
@mysticalchild@xanga - The Vegan Family Cookbook is a very simple cook book with great kid friendly recipes in there. I also have heard of a vegetarian cookbook called "Better Then Peanut Butter & Jelly" that is supposedly very good.
My older boys (5 and 3) don't like straight vegetables much either but we're working on finding things they do like.
I'll need to save the rest so I'll end up typing up the blog here.
i'm not veg*n but i had a roomie in college who was vegetarian for health reasons. her husband is not vegetarian so they do a little give & take in their diet choices.
i have a question though. your veggie pic on this post looks SO yummy--a lot like the steamed veggies at Chili's. i wish i could make my veggies that well. they always have the perfect texture. crispy without being hard...mine always seem soggy or something. is there a trick to making firm/slightly crisp steamed veggies?
@princess_deidre - The main trick is to only steam them for a short time (5 minutes or so). The longer you steam them the softer they get so you may have to experiment a bit to get the timing right for you.
Yay vegans! Not a mom, but loving being vegan. Lots of recipes... veganlunchbox blogspot is good.
