Life as a 7 Year Old...
by Mama Bee Me: Do you have homework?
Son: Yes. I have a little.
Me: Okay, lets get on it because its bath night.
Son: Can I do it after dinner?
Me: No, you can do it now as I asked though.
Son: Okay. But, I will do it because you are my mother and I have to listen to you, but not because I want to.
Me: Sounds like a plan.
Son: BUT...
Me: Bubba...
Son: No, wait I have a great plan.
Me: You're not getting out of your homework right now. You need to get it done so after dinner you can take a shower.
Son: Why dont you go and lay down. You're sick. You need to rest. I'll make dinner and then do my homework after we eat.
Me: Seriously? Just do your homework and stop talking about it. You could have been done by now.
Son: It's rough being 7. I always have so much to do.
My 7 year old has homework, maybe 10 minutes a night. We read before bed, he has to brush his teeth, take a shower, clean his room and his playroom. He must also help clean the living room (which is always just putting shoes in their rooms) and clean up his dishes after dinner.
Nevermind the fact that his home is always clean, dinner is always made just the way he likes it, his mommy picks out his clothes (and I do it the night before so he can sleep in longer), he gets to go to work with daddy on Saturdays (to get packed full of candy from my husband's employees), and he gets more hugs and kisses than he knows what to do with. His biggest worry is if his shoes are untied and where his batman cape went. He doesn't care if he washed his smelly butt or brushed and flossed his teeth, and he doesnt care if his fingernails are dirty and long. He is more concerned about how long he can stay out in the backyard after it starts getting dark and if his spiderman band-aid is sticking on that not-even-there-anymore scratch.
Life, at 7, is SOOOOOOO rough.
Who wants to go back to being 7?
Raises hand.

*raises hand way way way high*
ME ME ME...as long as I don't have to grow up again!!!!
haha, apparently he wouldn't mind being in charge of cooking dinner every once in a while though. I say go with it!
Kids are so dang cute like this :P
HAHA, I loved the conversation recounted! So cute!!
Kids will try to argue their way out of anything!
AAWWW. I definitely want to be 7 again! What a sweetheart.
Oh man I wish I could go back so bad.
But I understand that when you are actually a kid life just seems so rough. School and THEN homework? What a bummer. LOL
That was an adorable conversation! Can a conversation be adorable? In this case...YES!
LOL..your son is a character! Although he probably is right though - a nap never hurt any mommy.
Hahaha, how cute.
It's rough being 7 considering how easy it was for him before school started...same reason we'd rather be 7 than *insert age* and going to school instead of work. =p
Haha, of course, a kid always want to have more play time, and me time. Not hw time, and cleaning time. Remember when you're young you always wish you're old enough already, and when you're old enough you wish you can go back to being a kid?
Haha, I think your son is really lucky to have you as a mom.
Because, if I said this
" Okay. But, I will do it because you are my mother and I have to listen to you, but not because I want to."
when I was a kid, I'd get slap/beat up, no toys for a week, and to apologize for "talking back" (but I really consider it as expressing own feelings)
*raises hand!
this is GREAT! sounds JUST like my 7 year old, who likes to negotiate his way through everything!
That was really funny, and reminds me of something my son would say. He's only (almost) 4, and is a pretty good arguer, I worry for myself later. :)
Raising my hand and waving it wildly!
Maybe you should let him suffer a little.Â
hahaha~~~
7-year-old boy~~ always want to have a negotiation with adults~~haha
Yes, please. :P
Was just telling a friend of mine the other day how much I'd love to go back to being a kid for a day. Would be a nice break from the real world. Hehe
The best part of all is the last paragraph. Where we get to remember what it was like to have the life of a child. He sounds precious.
Great story! Personally I wouldn't like to go back to 7, that's around the time when kids reach the age of reason which can be quite an eye opener. They suddenly realize they are not the center of the universe as they have believed since they were born. They are now a very small part of a very big world and that can be scary.
I love how he comes up with plans, it looks like he's feeling pretty secure and is heard by his parents or he wouldn't bother coming up with plans. I am always thankful for parents who listen to their kids and kids who can talk to their parents, it's so important.
Thanks for sharing!!

Ha! That dialouge quite possibly made my day.
I'll be starting clinicals and observations for my Education major. I can't wait to work with children like your son XD
The life of a 7 year old sure is complex!
i wish we could just raise our hands and go back to being seven. It'd be so perfect.
