Sometimes He Just Gets It Right -Date Nights
by Mama Pig
You guys know how stressful this whole move thing has been on me. Between six kids, classes, and trying to move two weeks earlier than first thought, I have been more than a bit off as of late.In an effort to really try and work on our relationship, Hubby and I have strictly enforced our once a week date nights for the past month. While it is sometimes difficult to get out the door, each date has proven to be a ton of fun.
Last week we just decided to walk around the mall. For the past six months or so I have been trying to find a replacement watch for one I lost about two years ago. I had purchased it at Wal-Mart probably ten or so years ago for less than $40 and wanted one just like it. That had proven to be almost impossible seeing as it had been a decade since I had last seen such a watch. Hubby decided to take up the search with me and we hit the Wal-Mart and Target at our local mall. I found many similar, but I wanted a black face and the ones we found with the right band all had a gold face. I'm slightly picky, so I wasn't giving up on the black face.
I'm also really cheap when it comes to things like that and I was refusing to pay more than $50 for the thing. Hubby, who is cheap in many ways, but loves to spoil me suggested we branch out and look at Macy's and a few other larger clothing stores. Well, we found the perfect watch.
The problem was it was in the fine jewelery department which meant it most likely came with a fine price. They of course very skillfully hid the price so that you were just left to wonder. We attempted to get waited on at the first Macy's and had no luck. We hit a few other places at that mall with the same result. All we knew was that we had found the watch, but had no idea if it would fall into my price range.
We had only been out about an hour so we decided to hit the other mall near our home. Once again, there was the watch in Macy's and once again no salesclerk willing to give us the time of day. I am unclear if we just looked too poor to be bothered with or if they were just that busy, but they lost a sale because of that. Off to JCP to see if perhaps we would have more luck. We not only found the watch, but they were having a huge sale. The super sweet salesclerk came right over and showed us the watch. It was more than slightly out of my proposed budget, but Hubby insisted I get it anyway. It is beautiful and probably the nicest Valentine's gift I have ever received. He wasn't finished with me yet, though.
He had promised me a spa day once the tax money arrived, but the move started and I just kind of put it on the back burner. Yesterday, after a really stressful morning with Whitney, Hubby told me to find the hairstyle I wanted and print it out. We were going to the salon. Oh my!
I found the perfect style and off we went. I got my hair colored and highlighted as well as cut in the exact style I had been dreaming about. It has been more than ten years since I have had a professional color my hair and I had a blast. The stylist was amazing and I walked out of there not only with a new hair person, but with a new friend. I was then escorted next door for a manicure. I freaking rock right now. I have not felt this beautiful in such a long time and I am so thankful that Hubby loves me enough to realize when I'm heading over that cliff and to give me a total "me" day to regroup.
I'm off to play with my new style and I just might put on a bit of makeup.
Do you and your significant other go on "date nights"? What recent thoughtful things have you done for each other?

awww ... that is so sweet. I really want to do a date night with my husband, but right now we have no one to watch our little man :( but hopefully sometime we will get to do date nights.
We don't have time for a date night with him working full time and me in school full time (and working part time). Plus money is short with his student loans and my outrageous tuition. But, about once a week for the last couple weeks, I'll come home from a long day at school and work and the apartment will be sparkly clean and one of my favorite snacks will be sitting on the counter (this week it was ranch oyster crackers). That just makes things that much less stressful for the rest of the week. Now if I could find something to do for him...
That's wonderful! We have been so busy lately, but I would love to have a date night every week. :)
My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost a year and a half, and since this past summer when we moved closer together, we got in the lazy hang out and watch tv most nights.
I got really happy that he has decided that he wants to start "dating" again; taking me out to the movies, dinner, etc.
Love it when the boys decide to be cute (:
Date nights each week are our goal, but we rarely make it happen. So, good for you guys! Sounds like a great time.
We actually bought a set of card type things to help us in having regular date nights. We bought the set when we were at a marriage conference about a year ago ... and we haven't used it yet. It is awful really. We would like to get out more ourselves, but often we don't have anybody to watch our children. There are nights that we will put the kids to bed early and watch a movie or read a relationship book together and that is nice. You don't always have to get out of the house to have a 'date night'.Â
That is so cute!
I love that your husband realized how women need to recharge themselves by getting dolled up once in a while. How thoughtful and selfless! I hope you had a blast.
