  • Some Dance in Their Underwear, I Dance in My Cleaning Gloves...

    Mama Bee by Mama Bee

Some Dance in Their Underwear, I Dance in My Cleaning Gloves... Every weekend I clean my house like a mad woman. I spend 8+ hours scrubbing our home until you could eat off the floor and walls.

I vacuum all 2300 sq ft of my home, move furniture around and declutter should I need to. If you were to peer in my windows on my cleaning day, you would probably laugh. I grab my pink iPod, turn the volume all the way up and go to town while dancing around in sweats and a tank top with my hair on top of my head.

Cleaning is relaxing for me, always has been and it's partly because I don't deal with anything except what I'm working on, be it the toilets, the kitchen, our bedroom, my children's rooms...

I claimed yesterday as my cleaning day since my husband was off.  He took our sons to school and I grabbed my iPod, threw my hair up in a crazy pony tail to keep it out of my eyes and grabbed my cleaning supplies. I didn't hear my husband walk in but he did hear me...coming up to the house.

I guess I was singing so loud he sat outside for a moment composing himself. He walked in to tell me and I was dancing washing the walls of the shower. As I turned around not only did he scare the crap out of me, he was crying with tears streaming down his beautiful cheeks from laughing so hard.

    It gets worse...

I turned the music down and tried to keep my crazy hot mess of a self to a minimum but it doesn't last long. One of my favorite songs came on so I turned up the volume all the way and sang away, being conscious of my volume this time since I knew my husband was home. He and the baby were downstairs having a tea party (absolutely the cutest thing in the world) so I figured I was safe. Suddenly as I'm mopping the floor on my hands and knees I feel a tap on my shoulder.

I pulled out my head phones, "Yeeesss, honey?"

(laughing) "As much as I love your rendition (laughs harder) of that song (he can hardly talk he's laughing) I think you may want to leave the high notes up to the singer (can't breath)."

"Shut up! How do you know what I was singing!"

(laughing in the baby's room, which is across from the bathroom) "THE BABY MONITOR!"

So, I turned it off and shooed him far away.

By the time my kids were getting out of school I had gotten our room and bathroom, my son and daughter's bathroom and my youngest son's room completely done. I was moving on to the kitchen when my hubby left to get our boys.

The blinds were open in the living room as was the door since I was burnin' up! I turned my volume on the iPod up again (you think I would learn my lesson) and began to sing like my life depended on it.

I turn around and I see my youngest son dancing away in the doorway as my oldest was laughing along with his daddy. My youngest was rockin out like you wouldn't believe, and I lost it. It was hysterical.

"Mommy, you can keep singing and dancing" he says approvingly.

And then I see our neighbor, this sweet little old lady, and her daughter, who is around 40 come over. They tell us how they were taking a walk and saw me in the window and also heard me. Both ladies said it made their day and then, as if it couldn't get any worse, the older lady says,

"My favorite move of yours was this" and proceeds to show my husband the dancing that he missed while away.

    OH. MY. GOODNESS.

I'm sure I looked a hot mess to everyone.

Everyone except my son who loves me, my singing and dancing, unconditionally and is more than willing to join his mommy making a fool of herself anytime.

Does anyone else find cleaning relaxing? What is your cleaning process like?

Lol, read this before... Still funny though!

  • der_lila_Stern@xanga

    lol!  That is hilarious!

  • malissa1578@xanga

My cleaning process is very similar to yours. Lol. I generally turn the music up loud and just go to town.

  • TashaDW_18@xanga

Wow.  That's hilarious.  Unfortunately my cleaning process isn't anywhere close to that much fun.  I despise cleaning. It doesn't relax me - it makes me grouchy!  I always wish I had the money to hire someone to do it for me!

I rock out to Aretha when I do the dishes.
When my neighbor sees me in the window, I smile and wave.
    love it.

I might find cleaning relaxing if I could get my husband to do something with the children so I don't have to stop to break up fights, get snacks, find something for someone, rock the baby to sleep, etc.  I'm so bad at losing track of what I was doing, I start a job, get interrupted by the children for something, and then forget what I was doing.  Oh well.  That sounds like quite a funny sight.  I bet you are glad you could make your neighbor's day.  :)

I have always found cleaning to be theraputic. Even since junior high, if I was upset about something, I would clean/organize something ... and I still do it today. I enjoy having a clean and organized house and being able to actually finish something and feel like I have accoplished something for the day is always a mood booster ... that is why I enjoy cleaning.

Cleaning go much faster when you pump up some music and just enjoy it. It doesn't have to be a 'chore'. How nice of you to make your neighbors day for her. I'm sure the sight of you dancing around would have been funny. But funnier yet ... the old lady imitating you!

I definitely find cleaning to be a good (and productive!) stress reliever.  You can usually easily tell if I'm agitated or upset about something because I'll get really quiet and start cleaning like a mad woman.  By the time I'm done, I've typically sorted out the emotions and calmed down.  I don't harbor anger or other such passionate feelings for long. :)

Oh, and I love my pink rubber cleaning gloves.  They're somehow sexy.

Muahahaha! I sing and dance when I'm in a cleaning groove too. I wish I had the energy to do that every weekend though. Most of the time I'm just trying to keep up with clutter control.

Cleaning is definitely fun for me, but in more of an empowering woman "hear me roar" kind of way. But only if there's NO ONE around to interrupt me...no babies, no husbands, no pets, etc.  So that rarely happens anymore.  Your post did make me nostalgic for those days when I could just ignore the world and clean!

  • just_the_average_jane@xanga

Haha, hilarious!  Cleaning is satisfying, but I detest the sound of the vacuum; my cleaning process is much less interesting than yours, since I skip the dancing (singing/music, yes).  I unwind primarily by baking.

I don't particularly like clean but I too have been caught in the act singing and dancing while scrubbing away.  When I moved in with my fiance I spent the first week cleaning the apartment from top to bottom (because let's face it, he's a slob), and he came home from work one night to find me rocking out to a new cd with the mop.  Good times.  Cleaning can be pretty entertaining around our house, especially with a dog that detests the vacuum cleaner so much he'll chase it around until you shoo him into another room (he does the same thing with the mop and broom, which is equally hilarious).

  • lissalinn@xanga

If it gets the job done I don't think anyone should complain. I do the ipod thing when I clean because it keeps me from getting distracted.

  • IrishBessie@xanga

That's hilarious!  I love cleaning when I'm in the mood.  Being pregnant with our second has sapped quite a lot of energy as I am still breast feeding my nine-month-old.  Looking forward to warm weather and that burst of energy so I can fling open windows and doors, crank the music up, and clean like a mad woman!

  • Heshewethree@xanga

Gurl, you just go ahead and do your thing. It's helps to get all that cleaning done, right?

  • gwendylyyn

Hehe. I actually hate cleaning, which is exactly why I put on music, and sing and dance like my life depends on it any time I get stuck doing it. It allows me to get through the chores without wanting to just burn the house down. Hehehe

    • About Me: Hi, I'm Mama Bee. I'm from Colorado and I've lived here my entire life. I'm happily married to the most amazing guy and have been for going on 3 years. I am a stay at home mom with 2 step sons that live with my husband and I full time. C is 6 and J is 5. My husband, Daddy Bee, and I have a daughter together. K is 15 months and is a miracle baby. I would like to have another baby but due to some health issues I've been told I may not be able to. I believe that is why God gave me my daughter and our boys. My family has and will always come first. Marriage and motherhood are hard, but the most rewarding things I've ever been able to experience in my life. We have our ups and downs, we're not perfect but we try, we live, and we learn. We laugh when things get hard and we are thankful when things are easy. With 3 kids our life never seems boring. I look forward to sharing my family with you!
