Have Any Workout Music Recommendations?
Guest post submitted by MommyDolce
I've been making good on some of my New Years resolution:- spend more time with my kids
- spend less time online
- and best of all ... lose weight
Yesterday, I hit my first 5 lb mark. WebMD says to focus on a small amount of weight at a time. I've decided on 5 lbs at a time.
I'm still breastfeeding, so I'm not on a diet. I changed my eating habits though. I eat all the time now. However, I 'm eating fruits and veggies and small portions.
Another tip from WebMD -think of your tummy as a furnace, it takes a lot for it to turn off and turn back on when don't eat for a long time then eat a big meal, it's better to keep it on a steady stream (I'm so jacking up that quote 'cause it's not an exact one, but you get the drift).
As I run everyday, I've been trying to memorize which songs pump me up on the treadmill. So far, here's my favorites:- 2 in a Room: Wiggle It
- 2 Live Crew: Too Much Booty in the Pants
- Lisa Lisa: Lost in Emotion
- Nas: Virgo
- Sasha: Dat Sexy Body
- Black Eye Peas: My Humps
- Guns'N'Rose: Welcome to the Jungle
- Janet Jackson: Strawberry Bounce
- Beanie Man: Dude
- Bobby Brown: Humpin' Around
- Kelis: Milkshake
- Usher: Yeah
- George Michael: Freedom
- Kanye West: Workout Plan
- Shakira: Hips Don't Lie
- Queen: I Want to be Free
- Gwen Stefani and Eve: Blow ya Mind
Okay, enough of my list for now. I had a really great playlist in my old computer but I never transferred my songs. So, my Ipod is so eh to me right now.
Please help me out and list your workout playlist. I'm an 80s baby and a major 80s and 90s music-junkie ...I repeat Lisa Lisa's "Lost in Emotion" like 5 times while I run. Help! Help!
What songs do you recommend for a workout?

I like loud rock music with a fast beat for when I am on the elliptical...like Buckcherry, Ozzy or Rob Zombie. But when it comes to running I prefer cadence. Maybe its the Marine in me but Run to Cadence With the U.S. Marines, Vol.2 is my favorite.
Personally, I work out in the morning via belly dancing, which accompanies a lot of Egyptian and Celtic music.
However, I have a long playlist of good music on my page if you want to check it out. I'm kind of an 80s girl too. A lot of it is really dancable... though I've heard you burn more calories with less effort if the music is of a slower beat. I forget why.
@Ampbreia@xanga - Oh really? I gotta look that up. Even though I've danced all my life ... I really think I look funny belly dancing. LOL I love love love the music on your site!!
@MommyDolce - I suspect I look funny belly dancing too but hubby doesn't think so. He shows every indication of enjoying it and says so too. But regardless, it's a better workout than the machines if I'm to judge by the amount of sweat and tingling muscles.
I like some of your choices of music. If you like 80s stuff, have you ever heard Kiss Me Deadly by Lita Ford?
Another song I like, its really random but has a great beat to it is Tunak Tunak Tun by Daler Mehndi...even if I don't have a whole lot of energy it just makes me want to get up and dance.
I've got lots of other stuff but I'm strange, so it might not be to most people's tastes. :)
I am of the older crowd and I prefer disco when I want to get moving and have alot of fun. I also like "I'm still standing" by Elton John, "Hit me with your best shot" Pat Benatar ? not sure of the spelling, Hope I helped a little in giving more variety in Ideas.
Happy health to you!
If you want something a little more kid/family friendly, I recomment Relient K. They're fun, they're sarcastic, they're spiritual, they're just hardcore enough to motivate me to spend a significant amount of time on the eliptical...
I actually like electronic and house music... one of the people I know is a DJ in the clubs in Scottsdale, AZ and his remixes are perfect to workout to because the beat keeps you moving at a very steady pace.
I've found that if you listen to the kids music it makes you work twice as hard to make the music go away..LOL
Personally, I work out to my 'angry' music if I'm running, walking, or riding the bike. I like Likin Park, Rage Against the Machine, Three Days Grace, Seether...
...I also like techno on occassion for a switch up in my work out playlist.
~Big Sis~
Lady GaGa has some fun high energy music and she has a song with New Kids on the Block that I absolutely love its really fun I also like old Britney from In the Zone and the Slave 4 U days anything thats fun and happy is great also make a playlist with some old fun songs that get you excited and then make when your working out the only time you can hear them that usually motivates me when I'm just in a lazy mood oh and rihanna is really fun too I have to say this screamo band Throwdown has a GREAT mix of Baby Got Back its my favorite cardio song along with Devil Wears Pradas remake of Still Fly by the Big Timers
This is the CD that my sisters and I listen to.
i tend to like indie bands and some rock
personally i like the following bands:
rise against
the offspring
nirvana
weezer
means
aspirations
I listen to rock and all those too.... I would recoomend muse and the cranberries's zombie
The old Panic! At The Disco album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out is good...not too fast, not too slow..... If you like pop-dance-rock.
Also a lot of Maroon 5 Songs off of It Won't Be Soon Before Long are good and some off of Songs About Jane are too...and I'm not just saying that because of my name ^.^Spice Girls can work from the 90's angle. Yes, I am serious. lol"Wannabe" plus most of the Spice World Album.
Hope that helps!
@raved@xanga - I looked at the track listing. That's perfect! "Barbie Girl" by Aqua....I wouldn't have thought of that lol.
try "walk" by pantera. it always gets me going.
@Maroon_5_Best_Fan@xanga - thanks for your suggestions they were really helpful
@SweetestCacophony@xanga - OOOOoo yeah
I can't help but dance (or clean the house) to The Rocket Summer's "Calendar Days" album. It's not his latest record, but I think it's the most danceable. www.myspace.com/therocketsummer
I listen to just about anything by Metallica when I'm working out but I like more of the hard rock music. Otherwise, anything that is catchy by T.I. or those old songs that have good memories behind them are fun to listen to.
