  • Inquiring Minds Want to Know -Is It a Boy or Girl?

    Mama Monkey by Mama Monkey

I figured I better give an update on the "situation".  My family (husband, one son, sisters and mother) talked me into finding out the sex of our baby during the ultrasound this last week.

Thank you to everyone who gave me their opinion on the matter. I guess, since I already had three that I waited for the surprise with, I decided it was OK to find out with this one. So, without any further ado ...

It turns out my husband and I are definitely a boy making machine. I guess, as the only boy in his family, he is taking very seriously the role of making sure the family name lives on.

I'm glad that we found out, though. While my husband and I are both completely OK with it (and would have been totally surprised if we had been told it would be a girl), my two older sons are not so fond of the idea as they were both set on having a sister.

The middle one, who is 5, is disappointed but didn't get too upset over the news. My oldest, who is 8 (and our classified drama king), said not to talk to him - he wanted to go to his room for 5 days! So I figure this way they will have time to adjust to the idea of having another brother instead of being mad about it when the baby comes out.

Hopefully, when that time comes now, they will just be happy to meet their little brother. (And we'll all be completely surprised if it turns out to be a girl!)

Now the trouble is finding another boy name that I actually like ...

How did your children handle the news of a sibling on the way? What about the baby's gender?

Wow, hopefully you explained to your children that you can't choose the gender of your baby... (Well, you can, but it costs a LOT of money.)

My husband and I are expecting our first, due in April and my sister in law is expecting her 2nd due in May.  Her son, who is only three, said that he did not want to know unless they were going to be boys lol.  Well, he got his wish for a baby brother and a cousin who will be a boy as well.

    Yay for team blue!

My older boys were really indifferent about the baby coming but were excited about having a new brother. They didn't realize that the new brother wasn't going to be the same age they were.

I heard somewhere that after having 2 of the same gender there is only about a 10% chance of getting a child of a different gender...and a smaller chance after that one.  I found it interesting.....

Anyway, congratulations on the new little man joining your family!

My son was only 22 months when my daughter was born so he didn't care about the gender at all - he probably would have just been happy if she hadn't invaded the family!

Congratulations!  I'm sure your sons will come around soon.

@AmberAcker@xanga - Congratulations!  I'm glad your nephew got his wish!

I when my mom was pregnant for the last time, I was 6 and I wanted a sister sooo badly. My brother wanted another boy to play 'Power Rangers' with.(He was 3) It was a girl and I was really happy.

CONGRATS!!!  Coming up with a name for my second little man was hard.  We couldn't agree on anything.  Finally we did.

When I was pregnant with my second my little man was 2.  When we found out we were having a little boy Dominic would come up to give my belly kisses and hug it--saying I love you baby Hunter.  He loves having a little brother.

Now that Hunter is 2 weeks shy of turning 1 Dominic (he's 3) is coming up to me saying that it's time for a baby sister.  And he tells us this every single day for-LOL.

haha it seems like boys want a brother instead of a sister lol. i know that when me and my twin were born, my older brother hoped for one boy and my older sister hoped for a girl but turned out to be 2 girls! haha.

Congrats to you Mama Monkey! The image you found is super cute! =)

Well, I hope there is a female animal of some sort in the home to help even out the amount of testosterone!! Congrats for team blue!!

  • mamamonkey

@jms2508@xanga - The 8 year old thinks that maybe a little sister wouldn't be as annoying as his little brothers! He would be in for a big surprise when she grew up anyhow.

@jusanobody@xanga - Actually, that is the really sad part. We have 3 animals in the house ... and they are all male. So I am way outnumbered!

Congrats!  I'm sure your boys will be excited and not care at all when the little one arrives.
We waited until they did an early sono at my DR's office at 9 weeks to tell our son.  I showed him the picture and asked him if he knew what it was.  He was very excited.  He wanted a brother because he thought that a sister wouldn't want to play video games with him.  He found out when we did about the sex of the baby.  We took him with us to the 20 week sono and we all found out at the same time.  Needless to say he was excited to get what he wanted but in all honesty I think he would have been fine either way.

Congrats! Whew, four boys. Good luck with that.

Tim's family only produces girls this generation. We have our daughter her second-cousins are all girls...five of them between his two uncles.

@TornadoChaser - ROFL @ the same age thing!

  • aliyagator@xanga

If we have another boy I don't know what we will do about a name.  We had such a hard time with the first boy's name!  But four boys... wow.  Good thing Boys are so much fun.
