  • My Infertility Good Luck Charm? Pregnant Barbie...

    Guest post submitted by SeeBeeWrite

Hello. I'm struggling with infertility. Have we met?

To most people I know in real life, it's become blindingly apparent that I'm having some troubles keeping living things in my uterus. Of course, everyone has suggestions and encouragements, and for that I am grateful.

However, occasionally someone will say or do something that takes me completely by surprise. For example, dear old Aunt Millie telling me about the different positions she tried when she was trying to get pregnant with my mom's dad, one involving lifting a leg onto the kitchen counter.

Or, there's the friend who gave me this, as some kind of weird fertility idol.

Midge, Barbie's married-with-kids best bud. This doll sells for quite a sum on eBay and Amazon, I was surprised.

Ignore the ceramic clown. My desk just has a lot of weird stuff on it.

Magnetic belly. The set, which comes with a tiny baby that you can curl up to fit inside the belly, was discontinued. Some people and their knee-jerk reactions, claiming that the doll promotes teenage pregnancy blah-blah-blah she isn't married, it's immoral, bitch-bitch-bitch. Apparently her husband and 3 year-old son were sold separately.

Belly comes off, baby comes out, instant baby-weight loss. I wonder if my friend is trying to tell me something by not including the baby.

Is anyone else struggling with infertility? What suggestions or advice have you received?

Surely to goodness you could find a baby to smush inside there. Moms are always getting rid of Barbie stuff at yard sales! Maybe putting a baby is Barbie's belly would help you put one in yours? Or maybe not.

Either way, I wish my baby weight came off like that! I think they should have at least given her some stretch marks.

Hope you get your real baby soon.

I know a lot of women who are struggling with fertility and I cannot even begin to give them any advice. It's such a sensitive subject. But your post reminds me of what Chinese old ladies tell you. You're supposed to have young boys jump on your bed on your wedding night! Uh yeah...my 13 yr old brother jumped on our bed...awkward!

Currently I have 3 kids, I had my tubes tied about 7 years ago and then wanted to have another child.  I had a tubal reversal and the chances were supposed to be slim to none.  We kept trying after the reversal and then gave up.  Figured it just wasn't in the books, plans are just plans.  I just found out 2 months ago, I'm pregnant with my 4th child.  Although waiting almost 2 years to finally get pregnant, isn't such a great number, I can understand how difficult it maybe.  Especially when there's not much you can do, but wait, hope and maybe pray.

'Wedding Day Midge' was my favorite Barbie to play with. I loved her auburn hair. I remember everyone getting their panties wadded over the pregnant doll. Funny thing? My friend discovered the Barbie-sized soccer ball that came with one of Barbie's littler sisters could be shoved under certain stretchy outfits to accomplish the simulation of that life event in our dolls' lives...add in a 'Quince' doll for the baby and you were set! How astonishing that neither of us ended up pregnant as teens! *rolls eyes*

My now-ex-husband and I tried for just over a year with no luck. My boyfriend and I weren't even thinking about kids (I was on the pill even) when we got pregnant with our daughter. Sometimes it seems like best thing to do is to stop 'trying'. 'Not saying that everyone can get pregnant while on the pill or anything like that, but seems like the strain of trying can sometimes be counter-productive.

Oh, yes, I hear good things about doing headstands after sex.

I wish I did have advice for you.

There really isnt any advice to give. You have trouble getting pregnant and you seem take have taken it well.

I think its hilarious she didnt give you the baby tho.

I really wanted one of those dolls when they came out.  I've grown out of the barbie stage, though :p

anyway, I hope somehow things will work out for you.

I wish you the best of luck.  I have a two year old, and I have had two miscarriages both in April of the last two years.  I am having problems getting pregnant and staying pregnant.  I don't really have any advice for you except to keep trying.

I have Midge still, and I love her dearly! She was my favorite Barbie doll

    Hi,

I used to have pretty bad stretch marks and red scars around my belly region
ever since I gave birth to my three kids.I had tried Vitamin E oil and cocoa
butter which a number of people had recommended but unfortunately it didn't
seem to work too well. My Doctor had even suggested that I go for a Tummy Tuck.
I then recently read an article about a lady who supposedly got rid of her
stretch marks using a particular cream. I tried it and it worked really well.
It took a number of weeks but my stretch marks soon faded away. You can read
the lady's article at the link below.

Im only 22 and still in school so there is NO WAY I know of exactly what you are going thru but I do have some hope to offer you. My mom and dad adopted me after trying everything except basically invitro and the really expensive shots.  They were told they basically wouldnt have kids.  Seven years later a miracle occurred and they gave me (or forced on me, depending on who you ask :P ) my little sister.  What a nice thing, right?  Well when my mom turned 40, she realized she was pregnant again, with my little brother. He is 12 years younger than me.  After that, they werent taking ANY chances. Moral of the story: Just because your uterus is acting up now, doesnt rule anything out for the future. Good luck!

I remember the Barbie with the belly that opened up. No instant weight loss. Maybe that wasn't a real Barbie.
I have a friend who struggled for a very long time with infertility but they ended up having a beautiful baby girl after many treatments.
