I don't have children, but I was always allowed to stay up..its New Years eve, you have to let them stay up! lol

  • my_final_username@xanga

I was never allowed to stay on midnight until I was 16,    my parents,  Nan and Granddad use to go out together,  great Nan looked after us.    since she having lunch at our house Great Nan use to stopped the night at our house,   since parents and Nan and Granddad were over the limit.

Parents and me are keeping it low key as usually,  the last time we did something was welcoming in 2000.

I was allowed to stay up late on New Year's as a child. It was a big, special occasion and my parents would always invite our three cousins to our house, so it was my parents and five little girls. It was so much fun.

I'll stay up, but only because I don't have to go to work. It'll be low-key this year.

For a long as I can remember I have stayed up till midnight every New Year's Eve.  We always had special snacky foods that were too expensive to have other times and watched movies and then watched the ball drop.  My son is only two so he will not be staying up till midnight, but he may stay up a little later than his normal bedtime because we are having family over for snacks and games.

I don’t make them go to bed at their normal bedtime on New Years.  My youngest usually wants to go to bed when she’s tired or she’ll pass out wherever she is.  Last year my oldest daughter (2 at the time) stayed up till the ball dropped and 5 minutes later I turned around again and she was passed out on the couch.  :)  So cute.  I’ll probably do the same this year.  My rule is, it’s New Years, let’s ring it in, it’s not every day!  But if kiddos get cranky, then their time to stay up is over!

For as long as I can remember, I got to stay up till 12. My little one is only 4 and she hasn't stayed up like that yet. There won't be much happening here tonight so I doubt she would want to stay up late tonight.

Mine are 3.5 and 20 months.  They will be going to bed at their normal time.  Right now New Year's Eve has no meaning to them.  Perhaps next year or the next I will let my oldest stay up.

  • nicolevw@xanga

My two youngest (7 and 4) will be going to bed a little later than normal, but only because we have a chuch service tonight at 7:30.  After that they go to bed --- they have not learned the art of sleeping in and I don't need cranky kids on New Years Day!! This is the second year that our oldest two (10 and 12) will be staying up past midnight - because they understand and they enjoy being with their friends.   They also know how to sleep in!

My daughter is only 13 mos, so she'll go to bed around her normal bedtime. (Maybe a little later so she can see the people that are coming over.) Whenever we keep her up too late (Christmas Eve) she screams her head off when we put her to bed because she's overtired.  So routine is better.

So far, in my house, the trend has been for me allow them to stay up. They're normally crashed out midnight comes around, though. So, we end up carrying them back to their bedrooms before it's over with.

  • Miss_Snow_Pea@xanga

I was allowed to stay up late. Most kids I know winde up falling asleep before midngiht anyway. In general, I found that letting kids stay up late reap really poor consequences.

  • AWaters@xanga

When I was a kid, my grandma would turn her clocks back an hour and we would celebrate with the New York People. We livid in chicago and were happily in bed by 11:15 thinking it was the new year!

  • RoAngie467

We were allowed to stay up late. It was also my sister's birthday!

  • xSocial_Vampirex@xanga

My kids will be allowed to stay up tonight and celebrate the new year.

My parents always let me stay up to celebrate the new year.

  • ijustneedhim@xanga

We were always allowed to stay up late to bring in the new year.  I don't usually send my kids to bed on this occasion either, but knowing my kids, they'll fall asleep way before that hour LOL.

  • LilMissBrwnEyes@xanga

We were allowed to stay up, but we almost never made it until midnight. It was fun to try anyway.

I think our kids will be allowed to stay up, once they're old enough to understand what is going on.

  • IamKelleyK@xanga

I was allowed to stay up late, although for several years I'd fall asleep and have to be woke back up to watch the ball drop (and most of the time I was cranky!).  I really doubt my 4-month-old will care about it tonight.  And I'd rather her sleep through it anyway!!

  • SWEETxN0VEMBER@xanga

i always went to bed at the normal times i was suppose too until i knew what new years meant. haha, but knowing us, we just pass out way before 12am

  • raved@xanga

I used to try to stay up, but I always fell asleep before midnight. I started being able to stay up once I was 12 or 13.

  • raizhafae@xanga

my son is only 18 months and even if i opted to not put him to bed at 7, his normal bedtime, i'm sure he would put himself to bed long before midnight. i don't have any problem with kids being allowed to stay up and celebrate the new year, and will probably even buy sparkling grape juice for them when my son and baby-on-the-way are a bit older.

when i was little my parents, aunt&uncle, grandparents, and great-grandparents always went out to a party, and took us to a sitter witha few more kids our age, prolly 8 kids or so total, and we would stay up and watch movies, and when our parents came back they would bring us hats, and noisemakers, and glow sticks. it was fun.

  • filtered_sunlight@xanga

I was allowed and I agree with my mom's theory: if you send the kids to bed before midnight, the neighbors are going to set off fireworks, wake them and then they've had what amounts to a "power nap" while you're exhausted and trying to get them back into bed.  Megan will be staying up to watch the ball drop with us.

  • inspireothers@xanga

i was allowed to stay up as long as i could, which never passes 11 because my mom always shooed me to bed early at 9 - 10ish so i could never stay awake !

  • CarmineKiss@xanga

As a kid, I was always allowed to stay up late for New Year's... It's one day, so it's no big deal. When I have kids of my own, I'll let them stay up for New Year's too.

  • BarniganFlarn@xanga

I don't have kids but I'd let them stay up if they want to. Why not? It's one night, I'm pretty sure they'd survive.

I think the first time I was even aware of new years eve I was like 5 and I walked out to the living room because I couldn't sleep. My parents told me I could stay up and welcome the New Year with them, except I think we celebrated early because I was falling asleep.

  • BrownWolf3@xanga

My parents usually never let me stay out late...but i guess now that im 16 they let me...i got to hangout with friends till 2AM it was nice:)
