How Do You Find a Work-From-Home Job?
Guest blog submitted by TashaDW_18
I am a stay-at-home mom, mostly.
I work two days a week at a Mother's Day Out program and my children go with me. I love my job but my problem is that I'm not making enough money. I am a certified teacher and have been looking for a full-time teaching job since last spring. I've had several interviews, but I guess the fact that I graduated over four years ago and haven't yet had a full-time teaching position keeps people from hiring me. (I had my first baby, a surprise baby, soon after I graduated and decided to stay home with him since we could afford it at the time).
I've been looking into doing some sort of work-from-home job, but of course, there's no way to tell by looking at the ads online if they are legitimate or just scams.
Does anyone have any advice about something I could do from home to earn some extra money until I am able to find a full-time job?

Have you considered becoming a licensed home childcare provider? People would love to have a certified teacher caring for their children. And you'd get to stay with your own children. It's pretty good money too.
My friend is a teacher and just had a baby. She does some tutoring on the side... she has advertised at churches and through word of mouth.
It never hurts to call local offices and just outright ask them if they ever have secretarial work that can be done from home. Some people are looking for that...
I think that the tutoring idea is a great one. You could do the tutoring at your own home so that you don't have to wreck any routine your child has, and schedule the tutoring around your family life.
Another thought would be signing up with your state to be one of those folks that checks on the homeschoolers. Some states (not mine, thank goodness!) have people that visit with the family and go over the child's progress, to make sure they're staying on track. Of course, this one would get you out of the house, and maybe you don't want that. I don't remember what they are called. Sorry.
A good way to make a little cash on the side is to be a guide on chacha, which is a mobile text service. People text in questions and you find them answers. You won't get rich, but it is legit. I do it and it can be pretty amusing and I learn something new all the time with all the googling I do. good luck
wondering the same thing myself...let me know if you find anything.
Check out wahm.com. They have hundreds of opportunities, all legitimate. There is also a forum, with lots of wonderful people who can help you out. I have found a lot of job leads through them. I am a freelance writer, and I have been very successful, even though I only started about two months ago. Good Luck!
I just wrote a blog entry on my experiences as a WAHM, with a lot of tips to get people started. Figured that it would be something a lot of people could use. Hope it helps!
There are a lot of great ideas here. Tutoring, home daycare provider, homeschool monitor are all good ideas. It all depends on how much time you want to spend on the job and whether you would be better off away from home or working from home.
A legitimate work at home business is to be a representative or consultant for a company such as found on www.suesbooks.info Check into income opportunities, view specials and sign up. For the month of Dec., the special is $35 ($181 value) and it gives you an extra 4 weeks to offer double free. Free training provided. Flexible hours, make as much as you want or as little as you want. We send out newsletters with game ideas, arts and crafts,.... Offer ends Dec 30th. Many of us are teachers, homeschoolers, daycare providers, librarians, or just plain moms who care about giving children all over the gift of literacy and developing their love of reading and learning. Reading is essential to all other learning. This gives you a great opportunity to get your foot in the door with schools and help them with reading incentive programs.
Another thought is to sign up to be a school substitute. When other teachers who have babies find out that you are home and able to take care of another baby or two, you could make some money that way also. Check the schools to see if there is any part time office positions available just to get your foot in the door. Good luck.
You can tutor from home but if your goal is to return to work full time as a teacher that is not your best career option.
I would recommend tutoring outside of the home for a company like Sylvan. Or, if you might want to own your own business, see if there are any opportunities for Kumon francises in your area. But, the BEST way to get your foot in the door for a fulltime teaching job is to be a substitute teacher, particularly if you can get a long term sub job. This gives the administration a chance to get to know you and see what you can do plus you will learn of full time opportunities before everyone else. This cna be particularly useful in areas where teaching jobs are scarce.
If, otoh, your goal is to have another baby and SAH then tutoring at home is a great option! I do that by specializing in a particular area (in my case reading and math recovery k-4). Specialization sets you apart from every other tutor on the block who are also certified teachers/SAHMs.
A good legitimate company to work for is Alpine Access. You work from home, and they have several positions available depending on what you want to do. Most of it is customer service though. All they ask is that you have a phone line, internet and a personal computer. This is not a scam, and they put you through an interview process and also take taxes out as well. It's really good if you want to work from home and not be scammed. www.alpineaccess.com . Good luck to you!
@MomWithoutaMinivan@xanga - chacha isn't hiring right now
I wasn't out to work from home, but through a choice to live a healthier, greener lifestyle and a good friend, I learned about an additional income opportunity for my family that has been amazing.
Check it out here:

Most of the people I work with are families just like mine who want a little extra financial security. If you are interested to hear more, I would love to chat. You can message me your contact info through xanga or I'm at beth.clendenin@gmail.com
This is a great opportunity because it offers residual income without ongoing monthly work, like other home businesses involve.
I just got a job workingb from home for a company called NEW. They are hiring out the wazoo right now. They start at around $9.00/hour and have something like 35 different shifts to pick from... and they are flexible about changing around shifts so you can work and have kids (you just need to be able to keep them quiet and have a "distraction free" environment to work with). All you do is take incoming calls (I work for Best Buy but there are a lot of companies) and set up service for people. If you would like more info, my email address is sakuhnert@hotmail.com.
Great information. The work at home scam information is very
informative. That can be a very frustrating aspect of working from home
if you are not informed.
Thank you.

I just found out that Global Response, an outsourced call center, hires work-at-home employees in addition to their in-house staff. If you go to their website, www.globalresponse.com, and click on 'Contact' on the right side of the toolbar, there are numbers, email addresses and an H.R. contact form that you can use to contact them about a job.
I hope this helps!
