  • Taking Time to Beautify Your Life

    Guest post submitted by fireflysouth

Somewhere along the way, I lost control. I think it was in the midst of the daily opportunities to do three loads of laundry, cook at least two meals for seven people and clean the house. I realize that I am basically keeping the chaos at bay. You only have to open the door to the spare closet to see what I mean.

The other day, I read another mom's blog and I felt inspired. Granted, she's a young mother with only one child who is young enough to stay where she puts him. However, she reminisced about how she used to make time to "beautify" her life.

"It was my daily mission to improve some little space in my home everyday."

Can't remember the last time I did that, unless it involved cleaning something or de-cluttering. So I've decided. Starting today..  I'm going to spend time (even if it's only 15 minutes) improving some little space in my home every day.

I want to do more than just survive the housekeeping and child-rearing chores. I want to really live and enjoy my home and my life. I want to create a home, a life style of love, faith and creativity, that will inspire my children and my husband and give them memories to cherish.

Do you find time to "beautify" your life?

with just a 2-bedroom apartment and 2 adults living in it, i dont really have to make extra time. but a while ago, when i felt really uninspired, tired and unable to do the smallest thing, i found the flylady website (http://flylady.com/) and that helped me to really get going. maybe that could help you a bit, too. :)

Wow - I wish I could be that inspired.  There are 2 adults and 2 kids living in our tiny 2-bedroom apartment, and we don't seem to have any room.  Good luck to you, though!  :)

I have felt I need to do the same thing recently. It's hard for me to do now with 3 kids under 5. It may have to wait until we buy a house in the next few months.  Then I'm going all out to make my home my temple, my sanctuary.

    Good luck to you!

@christygraves@xanga - @LisiliLostRedemption@xanga - I love flylady. However, when I tried to work out the systems, my kids accused me of joining a cult! lol I still use the 5 second tidy, and I clean my sink every night!

Christy, have you seen those vinyl cut outs? They sell them at etsy.com  There not very expensive.. but so cute. I dont know how old your kids are, but if I lived in an apartment..and couldnt' do anything to the walls .. these would be a fun option because they just peel off.
    Here's the site

I have found that a beautiful home is my form off release.  It's hard to keep up with my two little kids and a husband who is usually too tired to care, when he gets home.  However, it does wonders to my mood ... so I do it.  We recently lived with my a few ppl that didn't care and trashed every thing we owned (wedding presents and our kids' things), so now that we've moved out ... I treasure a beautiful home even more ... even though we are only renting for now.

I live in NYC with my military hubby and 2 bratty divas under 5 yrs old. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed, but we have such a small apartment, that organization sometimes is just impossible!!! I need tips hahah!!! Good luck to you

I, too, have had help from the FlyLady website, but I'm still struggling most days. I work two jobs, my husband does too, and we are raising a small child (toys! outgrown clothes!) in a tiny two-bedroom apartment with only ONE built-in closet (can you imagine what we've got stuffed in there?). We don't even have a place to put the vacuum cleaner... My husband is a musician, so apart from the usual clutter, we also have about 12 instruments (including a double bass!) and a lot of equipment to house. It's a miracle our place is liveable at all, I say!

But still, we try. We are trying to sell our home in a down market, so we have to. Now, every day, apart from doing a load of laundry, taking care of our child, cooking, washing dishes and cleaning up the kitchen, we try to at least keep our surfaces empty (we TRY... doesn't mean we always succeed) and do a little decluttering every day - even if it is only 5 minutes! Some days, just the basics are enough of a challenge, but you'd be amazed how much you can accomplish in five minutes: half a desk cleared, some shelves organized, a plant repotted... it all counts.
