Best Books of 2008 - Part 2: Children's Books
by Mama Fox Cont'd from Best Books of 2008 - Part 1: Fiction
Here are some of my favorite children's books from the past year:
The Prince Won't Go To Bed! by Dayle Ann Dodds and Kyrsten Brooker - This book has a catchy rhyme about a little prince who won't go to bed despite the efforts of the castle's occupants. His big sister finds out he just needed a good night kiss. I really enjoyed reading it and the kids loved it.
How Many Mice? by Michael Garland- 10 mice set out to get some food. They find some, lose some and arrive home with just enough. It's a good learning to count story.
The "Me" Series by Joan Sweeney- A wonderful little set of books about a little girl exploring the world around her. We own Me and My Place In Space but have read Me and My Amazing Body and Me on the Map. There's also Me and My Five Senses, Me and My Family Tree and Me and the Measure of Things.
National Geographic World Atlas Young Explorer's Edition. My boys love maps. We checked this one out from the library to see if it was worth buying. It definitely is! Bright pictures, lots of information and of course educational. Lately when we watch a movie, I'll get it out to show them where the movie takes place. Like Kung Fu Panda is China and Ratatouille is in Paris France.
It's Not The Stork! A Book About Girls, Boys, Babies, Bodies, Families and Friends by Robie H. Harris. This one is a great one for curious little ones, especially when they ask the question where to babies come from. It's written for 4 years and up, age appropriate but of course you should look through it completely first. There's drawings of the similarity and differences between boys and girls bodies, inside and out and how things change as they get older. It touches lightly on sex then goes right into the sperm and egg growing to make a baby. The end even has a couple of pages on "Okay and not okay touches."What are some of your favorite children's books?

The first book on the list sounds adorable! I saved all my little kid books for when I have kids.
I was always a Curious George fan as a child. I plan to buy those books for my own children some day.
There a series by D.B. Johnson about a bear named Henry who is based off of henry thoreau. They're childrens books that channel transcendentalism. i'm dying to find them and they're really really good.
