What Not To Say To A Pregnant Woman
Guest post submitted by thesecretlifeofkat
Here is an excerpt from a conversation I had with my sweet husband today as I was leaving the house to meet a friend for coffee:
Me: “Well, I should be back before dinner. I love you.”
(hug)
Him: (Steps back and looks at me.) “I think you’re bigger this pregnancy than you were the other two. Wouldn't you say?”
Me: blank stare
Him: “I mean at this point in your pregnancy I think you’re stomach is bigger. “
Me: blank stare
Him: “Um...I mean it’s bigger in a pregnant way....not in a fat way.”
Me: blank stare
Him: “But...but...you don’t look pregnant at ALL from behind.”
Me: blank stare
Him: “I mean you’re a really fit pregnant woman....you look great....”
Me: blank stare
Him: “I suppose that’s one of those things you shouldn't say to your pregnant wife....?”
Me: “I suppose so.”

you know, for whoever commented that pregnant women shouldnt take offense to comments like that, -- have you ever been pregnant?
im a very practical person, and i agree that its annoying when people take offense to stupid comments most of the time, but if the girl is pregnant, its not exactly like she can always help her reaction to things!!! goodness knows i called my mom last night to tell her i changed the crib on the registry at target (she wants to buy it for me for christmas) and she listened to me go on and on for about 5 minutes before saying "um, im at dinner, can we talk later?" --- i burst into tears! i was so mad at her for not just telling me she was at dinner first and then i felt humiliated that (as i just then remembered) she was sitting at a charity ball with a bunch of old rich people and i was the one interrupting the night with stupid crap about a crib. in reality, was it a big deal? no, but it felt like it at the time. welcome to hormones.
i guess im just saying that no matter what the comment is, whether its meant to hurt or not, if youre pregnant, you never know how you will react. the other day my husband and i saw the movie madagascar 2 and he was quoting it when he said "girl, you're huge!" and i yelled at him to shut up. it was funny that time, but i knew that if he caught me at the wrong moment, id end up pissed.
don't mess with a pregnant lady!
a good save from that would have been to wonder out loud if maybe it's twins. .
aww that's cute but hilarious. :3
