My oldest had one for 3 months until he refused it in favor of his fingers. My middle son had took it only to sleep until 9 months. My youngest refused to take one at all.

I am unsure when I was a baby I had one,   cannot remember how many months I got rid of mine.   I think it was about 3 months.

  • AnnetteK@xanga

My son had one only until he was about 11 months old and then he just didn't want it anymore.

  • UnitedStatesofTrina@xanga

My son stopped using his at 22 months. Forcibly so. But it was easy, just told him we were fresh outta binks and tah-dah, he didn't want it. If only I had tried that 10 months earlier!

My daughter uses one mostly just to fall asleep at night.  She's almost a year and we were hoping to wean her off it by then, but I kind of like having something to keep her quiet during church.

  • belle_figlie@xanga

Yes.  I allow my kids to have it until they're two years old.  However - they do NOT get it during the day or out in public.  It's a soothing nap or bedtime thing.  Or I freeze it during those insanely bad teeth weeks.  After two they're potty trained and paci free and on to the big kid world!

  • lil_lady_j@xanga

S is still using it & if he doesn't stop on his own, i will stop it before age 3

  • nadia_mt@xanga

I did not give the pacifier to my kids. I do not really like it. I was told by a speech therapist friend of mine that pacifiers can interfere with their speech & can contribute to lisps.

But besides that, I did not give it to them because I just don't like pacifiers.

My son used to throw them at me, so no, he never really took one.  But he is a thumb sucker!  I'm trying to wean him off his thumb during the day.  All I have to do is remind him and he takes it out.  It's just a subconscious thing for him.  I don't mind him sucking it at nap and bed times, though.  It's a comfort thing for him at those times.  Btw, he's 21 months old.

My 3 year old took one until he was 3 months old, and my 8 week old takes one now and she likes them so I'll let her have one until shes about 1 and then itll be time for it to go, if she doesnt make it go before then.

  • OoOoOoMeLiSsAoOoOoO@xanga

my 3 month old will only take it if shes super mad. and even then u have to hold it in her mouth.

  • MommyGEM_RN@xanga

I didn't give my daughter a paci until her breastfeeding latch was well established. She took it a couple times when she was 1-2 months old, but has rejected it since. She still likes to play with them and chew on them, but she doesn't use it for comfort. Which is fine by me! One less thing to wean her off of! lol!

  • Fairywife@xanga

My daughter is 6  months old and uses one for sleeping, and that's it. It's a wonderful thing to have if she wakes up in the middle of the night. I just give her the pacifer and she falls right back asleep. Unless she has to burp, then I'm up for an hour trying to help her get it out. =/

  • myheartisathome@xanga

No. I found them to be waaay more trouble than I was willing to go through. Especially since I was nursing.

  • happygirl7798@xanga

I have used them with both of my kids.  My youngest one is four weeks.  I will use it with him until either he doesn't want it or he is a year old which ever comes first.

  • hatcherbee@xanga

I've never used them with any of my kids. Never saw a need. I have honestly never really understood their purpose.

  • AnchoressNun@xanga

We call them "dummies" here, and I have seen them used here in Ireland  a couple or three times by "big kids" of three or four. It looks so strange. Some of the old mothers used to dip them in sugar etc.

Hahaa I had my binky for a while, Idk how long exactly but I know it was too long. My parents ended up taking us to the mall to see Santa and whispered in his ear that she wanted him to ask us for our binkys for other children to have, so we were happy and only too willing to please Santa Claus, a few months later we found them and were very upset...*the reason I say us and we is that I have a twin* heehee.

  • HalfaCent@xanga

I offered, she didn't want it, she was a thumb sucker.

  • Kates533@xanga

Oh yes, I love nukies! :) My son had his until about a year, and then we took it from him. My daughter is 9 months and still has it.

  • carlamae75@xanga

My 3 year old rejected it after a couple of months.  Instead he is a thumb sucker, and I am having a horrible time trying to get him to stop.  I just took it away from my 1 year old, and she only used it to sleep.  I much prefer it to thumb sucking. You can get rid of the paci, not the thumb.

  • TashaDW_18@xanga

My 3 year old used it only for nap/bedtime until he was 2.  We cut the tip off of them at bedtime that night and he said it was broken and never asked for one again.

My daughter is 18 months and uses it for nap/bedtime also.  We will try to get her off of it about 2, also.  I'm thinking she'll be more stubborn than her brother was, though...

  • mamajoyjoy

Nope. She didn't want anything to do with it.

  • EnneS@xanga

I don't have children yet, but when I do, I definitely will use them.

I used one as a child almost constantly up until about age 3, I'm pretty sure. I think I probably used it occassionally as a comfort item up until age 5 or 6. I never had any speech or teeth problems, etc. (I was also breastfed.)

No offense to anyone, but one of my pet peeves is when parents force their babies/toddlers to give up their pacifiers super early.

  • draco1531@xanga

@EnneS@xanga - Why is this a pet peeve of yours and what do you think is super early?
