My 22 month old son gets chocolate but in very small quantities and in serious moderation.

My daughter started getting tiny tastes around 8-month-old, but she rarely gets more than a bite at a time and probably won't get more until she's 2ish.

I let my daughter have like homemade chocolate chip cookies at like 10/11 months, but then my mom told me I wasn't supposed to till she was 5 years old.  But I couldn't find a "reason" for that age.  She told me its cuz it makes kids mean!  But it never has for her.  She did have triple chocolate cake at 12 minths 3 weeks for her bday party.  ((We did chocolate so we could get good pictures) and she was kinda ornery that day, but there could have been multiple factors for that...too much sugar, lack of naps...you get the idea....

I haven't been able to find an official doctors reccomendation on the chocolate thing!!!!

I don't know that there's really a right or wrong age for chocoloate.  I think parents have to be careful with any kind of junk food - not just chocolate!  So many little kids run around with candy, cookies, chocolate, chips, sodas, etc.  They won't eat "regular" food because they say they don't like it - but it's amazing how kids will never turn down junk food!  Parents should be careful how (and when) they introduce junk food to their kids - and be careful not to overindulge.

Both mine had their first taste of chocolate at their first birthday party.  They like chocolate - but get it very rarely!

K has had a taste of chocolate, but never a whole piece.  We don't give Jacob chocolate much b/c it turns him into HYPER drive

I don't think there's a specific age at which we can give our children sweets. Monitoring the amount of sugary stuff they consume is a good idea, though,no matter what age they are.

Megan will get a taste when she gets a taste. It's not something I'm overly concerned about, one way or the other. I guess that's a "perk" to Tim's diabetes; there's rarely any junk food in the house and we rarely go out for ice cream or things like that.

After 12 months, small amounts (just a taste) isn't going to do any harm.

Honestly, I can't remember my son having chocolate yet.  He's 21 months old and he's never had chocolate.  He didn't have cake or icecream until his first birthday party.  Rarely I'll make oatmeal cookies and he'll get a couple spread out over a week, but he really doesn't get many sweets.  I might let him have a taste of chocolate this Halloween, but just a taste.

My son first snatched chocolate from me when he was 4.5 months old.  He's loved it since then.  Still, I only let him have small amounts of it b/c things with milk (dairy) in them give him a rash.  I don't see what the big deal is.  A cookie every once in a while won't hurt him.

    NEVER.

that stuff is very addicting. last night I ate an entire bar of chocolate (800 calories) in one sitting.

I really do love chocolate, and it's not even that time of the month...
