I still need to do the sewing portion of "
Operation: Nursery," like the
plain crib sheet and dust ruffle. I've found quite a bit of
inspiration in catalogs and magazines lately, both for nursery things
and Christmas gifts...stuff where the light bulb has flickered on and
my brain screams, "
I could make that!"
Like the crib mobiles -they're
getting $25-$45 for them and it would take less than $10 in supplies to
make one.
And then it would match the rest of the set that I'm making, too! So far, I love
these Dragonflies.
Combine the dragonflies design with these instructions for
Good Housekeeping's Fall Garland
to make the wings stiff and it's looking like a breeze! I can either
suspend the mobile from the ceiling, or I have one of the plastic kind
I could just revamp from a boys' set a friend gave me before we knew we
were having a girl!
Are you DIYing any decorations for your baby's nursery or child's bedroom?

Most of my nursery will probably be DIY, but who knows how much of it my family will actually let me make on my own. My mother-in-law thinks she should buy us every little thing we need for the baby.
I wish I could make it.
I'm lacking in the crafty skills.
I don't have room for a nursery for my baby girl and it makes me so sad.
I need a new casa here soon. I mean there's room for her bassinet but not any practical room for a crib or anything like that.
I hate my apartment.
I am sort of crafty, but not sewing crafty. And, I never really did a nursery. We lived in an apartment and now that we have a house, it's just not affordable. Besides, my kids have to share rooms, so I don't think my almost 4 year old would want nursery stuff in her room.
But good luck! If I could sew, I'd probably be way more into it.
I have a mobile already, but I would love to know how to make the cover for the bar part of the mobile?
I'm not the best when it come to DIY projects. Luckily, my Mother is, so if I can enlist her to help me make them, I will, to save money.
When I was pregnant with my daughter I found a set that I just absolutely had to have but the price tag said UH NO! So instead, my mother made every piece of it, substituting parts such as the trim/fringe. Instead of expensive material, she used soft towels rolled and stuffed to make the trim. It was not only beautiful but now an heirloom!!
I made everything for my daughter's nursery and it has gone through 3 more kids. Now I find myself wondering if I keep it for sentimental reasons or just let it all go. Not knowing the sex, I went with a primary color circus fabric and I made curtains, 2 lamp shades, a dust ruffle, bumper, 2 quilts, 2 wall hangings, and a dirty clothes bag. Oh yes, then I used the leftovers to make her first Christmas stocking which said "Baby" and was used by the other 3 as well until I made them their "name" stocking. But if I added up all the material, well, it wouldn't be cheap, although it would be less than the designer stuff people buy. But I ended up using a lot of fabric. And I am struggling with letting it go because it represents hours and hours of work ... but the truth is that by the time I am a grandmother I would probably want to buy new - and I hate to store things.
I DIY all my pocket cloth diapers!!!!
I'm making baby quilts. And I plan to make at least some clothes and maybe cloth diapers if I chose to go that way. Not sure I'm crafty enough to do mobiles and stuff like that, though.
