  • When Mommy Gets Sick...Really Sick

    Mama Beeby Mama Bee

Subacute Tonsilitis. That's what I've had for going on 4 days. It's been hell. I haven't eaten in 2 full days nor have I had anyhting to drink unless it's to take all of my medication. Z pack, Ibuprofen and or Tylenol along with pain medication to help me get through this AWFUL time. I've had my GB taken out this year, 4 amnios when I was prego, a c-section cut wide open and graves disease but this is WAY worse than all of those together. THAT'S how bad it is. Thursday night my husband rushed me to the ER after he checked my tonsils and said they were really huge on the right side and checked my temp and it was 102.8 my resting heart rate was 145 for 6.5 hours. They gave me 3 bags of fluid for my severe dehydration and oxygen since without it my oxygen was only in the 70s. I was annoyed because my Dr check everything and after looked in my mouth at my throat he said "That is horrible, that looks like it sucks" then pumped me full of fluids, pain medication, and antibiotics.

I came home and prepared for my best friend's baby shower and tried to get everything ready Friday for it. BIG mistake. I was so sick all night with a 102 fever that since I refused to go to the ER my husband slept on the couch so he isn't catching what I have.

Yesterday I dropped off everything for the shower but I couldn't even help because I was shaking and cold and vomitting. At 3 my husband took me to the ER again after my fever was back up to 103 and the tonsil was white. This time they did x-rays and tried to start fluids because yet again, since I couldn't even swallow, I was dehydrated. Well, they couldn't get a line and 11 pokes and 4 different people trying they got the IV in. They gave me 2 shots in my rear, some pain medication that starts with a D and steriods. After they got my fever down, my heart rate, and me a little more comfortable, we were released. Now I'm on my Zpack, 12 PTU pills a day, Cipro, Magic mouth wash (which numbs everything) and 600 ml of Hydrocodone (I only take 15 ml each time). She also gave me liquid Ibuprophen which is going down way easier. My white blood count shows that my body is fighting this so we're hoping it kills it soon. I can't even hold my daughter. My sons called yesterday and my oldest said he couldn't wait to come home and that just made me cry. I miss them so much but I know he was worried because Thursday night when my husband was taking me in I was crying and throwing up and I was wrapped in a blanket because I was so cold (102.8 fever does that I guess). He kept saying "Mommy what can I do to make you feel better? Please dont cry." It broke my heart but I couldn't help it.

I feel good with all the numbing stuff but puss is still coming out. Here is my pretty throat. I'll be back when I feel better.

Can you see the puss coming out?

I know you're jealous and you wish you had that too, but it's all mine. I'm going to lie down now. Say a prayer I feel better and can get off my death bed soon.

When was the last time you were so sick that you had to be in bed? Who takes care of your children when you're not feeling well? Does anyone have any tips on helping children cope when mommy is sick?

Geez, I've had a horrible head cold plus morning sickness for the past 8 days, but I'm sure glad I don't have your ickyness!  I'm sorry you're doing so bad!  Hopefully you'll start feeling more like yourself again soon.  Feel Better!

And as for taking care of my son, he watched a lot of tv while I've been sick since all my family is over 600 miles away.  Ah, the beauty of being part of a military family...not!

OH YUCK!  I'm so sorry you're sick.  I hope you feel better soon.

In Feb I was sick for 3 days.  Vomitting, dizzy, the works.  Couldn't even stand up without help I was so dizzy.  Thankfully it was the weekend so hubby could take care of our daughter!  We were living in Germany at the time... no babysitter!

Oh my god. I hope you get better! I will say many prayers for you, though I'm a little lax in my own.
The last time I was so sick I was in bed was last year. I had severe bronchitis that coupled with pneumonia after a week. I threw up anytime I ate or drank, ran the high side of 102/103 fever, and my violent/crazy painful cough was accompanied by blood every time. I finally had to be taken to the ER and I stayed there two days before they'd release me. They pumped me so full of stuff I didn't know where I was. It took me three weeks to be back to normal.
I think you just have to keep telling them you'll be better soon, and have your husband do some fun stuff with them, to take their minds off it.

Wow, you should get those taken out.  Last time I was sick in bed was right after my daughter was born and I got mastitis.  I just kept her in bed with me but that was easy since she was so young.  I suppose if I got so sick I couldn't take care of her, my hubby would have to do it unless he could convince my mom to make the 10 hour drive up.  As for kids coping, well, be honest about it and just say you're sick but you're getting better.

I hope you will get better soon. Mommies don't get too many "vacation or sick days." I normally don't really get sick, but if I have a headache I just suck it up until Hubby gets home.

Oh my gosh! I hope you feel better soon!!! I am guessing it would be hubby that would take care of our son if i got really sick like that.  We are far away  from family and will be even further away after nov :( I am so thankful i rarely get sick! I hope you feel better soon!

A neighbor of mine, her mom is dying of cancer.
I can't even stand to see my mom cough, it just fills me with anxiety. I hate it whenever my mom or dad is sick, it just makes me worry that they're going to die and I'm not ready for that AT ALL.

  • Erika_Steele@xanga

ouch.  I hope you feel better soon.  I have no tips.  I have never been in your shoes.

Soup for You (hope you feel better...)

Wow, I can't believe they only have you on a Z-Pak. They should definitely prescribe stronger antibiotics for how ill you are right now, like Ketek. I hope you are well soon!

You poor thing! This sounds so horrible. You have all my blessings!

I had tonsalitis when I was five years old and had them promptly removed. I caught pneumonia in the hospital the next day and missed two weeks of kindergarten. I even missed an exciting lesson about the letter V!

    Please, get well soon.

Feel better and sleep a lot. I once caught food poisoning from a meat loaf at Cheesecake Factory and was in bed for 5 days. I was puking and having too much bowel movement. But I guess it's still less painful than what you're going thru.

I remember my mom getting sick with typhoid when I was little, and you're bed-ridden for about 2 weeks with that one.  It was time for my older siblings to step up & take care of us little ones, and my dad took on a lot more with us because we had basically no one else.

  • GodsGirl62@xanga

And please give yourself a break from outside responsibilities - no getting any sicker!  :)  Your friends will understand.
