  • My 911 Call: The Scariest Night Ever

    Mama Beeby Mama Bee

Tuesday night was quite possibly the scariest night, ever.

While I was making dinner a guy came to our door talking about selling magazines. I said I would buy the Parenting one but with dinner on the stove I would need to do it later. He was very nice and said that was fine. I went back to cooking and that was that. Around 8:17 I heard this loud knocking at the door. It was so loud I was scared it was going to wake up all my kids. I knew it was him and didn’t want to talk to him so as I was shutting off the TV I heard him check to see if the door was locked! He turned the handle and I flipped. I ran to the back sliding glass door, locked that, grabbed a knife and ran to my room. He was still knocking and checking the door so I called my husband and my best friend D and told them what was going on. They agreed that I needed to call 911 so we hung up and I did. The dispatch told me to stay on the phone with her until the police arrived. She told me that they were in route and to stay in the room. I was crying and shaking.

    BEEP.

My phone was dying. I had to plug it in and then I heard this bang in the kitchen. She asked me what that was and I said I didn’t know, the window was open but it could have been the dishwasher that was running. She assured me in ten seconds police would be there. I went to look down the hall and my charger crashed to the ground because I pulled it out by walking too far. She again, asked what was happening. I told her my charger fell and she said I would be hearing things all around the house. She advised me not to go to the window and to stay in the room but that the police were there but I wasn’t to move until she told me to. Finally, after what seemed like forever she told me to put my knife down and to walk to the door that a police officer was there. As I was walking to the door I could see at least 4 officers in the backyard. I opened the door and just lost it. The officer was very nice. He was comforting and following him were 3 other officers. I told them what happened as I called D to tell her we were okay. The relief in her voice was noticeable but I wasn’t able to talk long as I had police officers all over my entire house now. They didn't wake the kids but they checked every room and combed over every inch of my house inside and out. I apologized profusely. I knew they probably had bigger things to be doing and every one of them assured me that they were happy to be there and make sure me and my children were safe.

"Call your husband and tell him to slow down" one of the officers said to me after I explained that I called Papa Bee first and he was on his way.

As I reached for my phone I heard tires screech and my husband’s pathfinder coming up the road. There were 2 officers upfront and as Papa Bee was pulling up they ran to his car yelling "They're okay! It’s okay!"

It was a scene right out of the movies. I stood on the steps and he ran up hugging me.

I must say, Colorado Springs Police Department is amazing. They were here in no time. They did a damn fine job. I can't imagine what would have happened if I had left the front door unlocked like I normally do when I know my husband is coming home.

Have you ever had to call 911 before? What was the situation, and how long did it take for the police to get there?

    Oh my goodness, sounds scary.

What happend to the magazine guy?

  • TornadoChaser

Oh my! How scary! I'm guessing they didn't find anyone. If it was that sells man did you catch his name? You should probably warn the neighbors about it too. I'm glad you are okay.

We've had one incident with the sheriff's office being called (loose dogs, gun shots and a pissed off redneck neighbor) but so far nothing like what you went through.

OH MY!  That sounds terrifying!  The description of your husband flying up your driveway, brought tears to my eyes!  I have never had to call 911, I'm happy to say and I hope you never have to again!

  • Amyld@xanga

I've heard many stories of salesmen forcing their way into homes. Glad you are okay!

I had to call 911 when I was in college my freshman year and I lived off campus and I didn't have a car.  One day I went and got my allergy shots at the free health clinic on campus and then I was going to catch the bus to get home.  I started feeling a bit funny and my chest started to tighten up.  That was when I realized I was having a bad reaction to my allergy shot and my asthma was starting to act up.  Well I have never had a bad reaction before so I thought I would be able to make it home because the bus would be there in about 15 minutes (it only took like 7 minutes to get home and I had to wait for it to leave campus.)  Anyway, by the time the bus pulled up to my apartment I was coughing up a lung and I could hardly breath.  Every time I breathed in I coughed up a bunch of junk.  It was horrible.  I took my inhaler when I got inside but I was afraid it wouldn't work well since I could hardly breath in and I called 911.  The ambulance and the fire truck arrived pretty quickly.  I would say within 5 minutes.  I was doing better by the time they got there because my inhaler had started working but before it started working I was so freaked out.  I had never had so much trouble breathing before because of my asthma ever.  They took me to the hospital to make sure nothing else was wrong with me and then I got a ride home with a taxi that the hospital paid for.  It was a scary experience but luckily I have never had to call 911 for anything else.

Wow that is so scary!  Do you know if they ever caught the guy?

I had to call 911 only once in my life about 4 years ago but not for a break-in.  My husband had a seizure out of no where at about 4 in the morning and I freaked out.  The police, ambulance and fire department all were at my house within 5 mins.  It was kind of strange letting all these people in my house and them wheeling my husband out on a stretcher.  He is fine and thankfuly I haven't had to call 911 for anything else ever.  Hopefully I never will.

I am glad you and your family were Ok.  That must have been scary to say the least.  The cops were doing their job and I am sure they would have rather had the call be a precautionary thing than to have had something actually have had happened.

I did have to call 9/11 before.  Some friends and I were going to lunch when a car ran someone over.  I called 9/11.  It seemed like it took a while, but the cops and ambulance came right away.

  • christygraves@xanga

Wow - I'm glad everyone was okay.

We live in a not-so-great neighborhood and have called 911 numerous times.  One time it was because someone got shot right in front of our house.  Talk about scary.  My husband had to go to the police station for hours and pick the shooter out of a lineup.

  • twocentsworth@xanga

glad to hear everything is okay...  scary.

  • havechanged@xanga

I'm glad everything turned out ok!

    *hugs*

Oh my goodness, that sounds so scary! I'm glad you are all ok. I usually don't have my door locked when we are up, but now I think I just might have to start remembering to lock my door.
  • willow_ann209@xanga

I'm really glad to hear you're okay. I would have freaked in that situation.

I had to call 911 about a year ago, at Halloween. We had this great setup on our lawn, and it was really scary. One of my friends was dressed as a serial killer and he was supposed to "stab" me with a fake knife. I was so scared when I realized it was real. He stabbed me in my side, and I was bleeding really bad. It took the police ten minutes to get to my house(which I thought was really great considering the day), and I'm fine now, but it was an awful night.

this is veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy scary. it's like a scene outta a movie

We had something like that happen to us before. I was a DD one night for my boyfriend and his friends. I Came home after dropping them off [It was around 11pm] and I closed the garage door, went through the garage, up the stairs and then into my kitchen. I closed that door. My mom was still up and on the laptop. We were quietly talking about how my job went that day, when I thought I heard a noise in the garage. I put my finger to my lips to tell her to be quiet, and thats when we both heard the screen door open, and someone trying to  open the kitchen door. I ran over and locked it quickly, but they still tried getting in. Mom yelled [literally] to turn the burgular alarm on, and I did. It takes 45 seconds to activiate, and beeps the entire 45 seconds. After it stopped beeping, and said "Alarm activated" we heard the doorknob stop moving, the screen door slam, and the garage door shut. It was obviously dark outside and we couldn't see anybody, so Mom called the cops.

I feel like if it was a neighbor or family member, they would have said something, and most likely called before they came over. [We like to use our cell phones in this family.]

Anyway, the cops came by, and did a search of the surrounding area, they found nothing.

I went on vacation about a month later, and the same thing happened again, but this time only my mother was home.

You would think that since they heard the alarm being set and such, they would just give up? What's in this house that's worth breaking into? :looks around: Okay, most things, but I'm pretty sure it would take heaven and earth to get this granite top off my counter, and I'm not sure someone could do it in the time it takes a cop to get here.

Maybe we have buried treasure in the walls and my mom simply forgot to tell me? Haha.

  • XXKimPossibleXX@xanga

OMG!  That is super scary. Glad everything is okay.

  • la_vida_linda@xanga

Thank goodness you all are ok :)

  • She_Wore_Lemon@xanga

    I'm glad everything was ok.

My family called the police once after someone rang our doorbell and it set off our Brinks alarm. I don't know if they shook the door knob and that did it, or if it was just a wiring problem. I love having a house alarm, although it is super scary when it does go off. The police showed up and looked around the house and couldn't find anything but it was hard to go to sleep that night after being so scared.

  • Pcgecko85@xanga

sounds like he really wanted to sell that magazine.

  • PoetMcChick@xanga

That sounds scary. I would be a horrible mess for weeks after that. What was the noise in the kitchen, by the way?

@willow_ann209@xanga - I'm just trying to figure out why he stabbed you if it was a real knife? Didn't he know it was real?

  • x_jack_sally_x@xanga

I'm really sorry to hear you had to go through such a thing, that's terrifying. I have fortunately never been put in to a situation like that. I did get an e-mail forward though called "A new rapist trick." Apparently in California people were being robbed in their cars when a man held up money to the window telling the person (usually a woman) inside they had dropped it. Whenever the person opened the door or window the man would attack. After I read that it really made me think. I am one of those people who would be so naive as to fall for something like that. Its a scary feeling. Here's a link to the story: http://www.fwditon.com/fwd/view/946

  • TakingxOverxMe@xanga

Eep!  That sounds really scary. =\

Fortunately, I've never had to call 911 for anything before.

  • willow_ann209@xanga

@PoetMcChick@xanga - It was another friend of his that handed him the fake one. We were running late on the show we were putting on, and he didn't think to check it. The fake one we bought looked exactly like the one his friend handed him. I still don't know why he wanted to hurt me. He never told anyone why he did it.

  • PoetMcChick@xanga

@willow_ann209@xanga - Ugh...I still can't over that. It's so scary. I dunno maybe it was a freak accident. He didn't check it so I don't imagine he did it on purpose. Are you still friends with him?

  • willow_ann209@xanga

@PoetMcChick@xanga - oh yea. We're still great friends. It's the one who gave him the knife that I'm not friends with.

Honestly, I still can't believe it happened. It's so stupid tv show, but I guess they have to get their inspiration from somewhere, right?

  • OoOoOoMeLiSsAoOoOoO@xanga
