Product Review: Germ Guardian Nursery Sanitizer
I hate that when you buy a teething toy or a pacifier or even a little toy that you hang on the playmat (that vibrates or makes noises) that you can't wash it in the washing machine or sterilize it and all you can do is wash it down with a damp cloth. I mean most of those items aren't even covered when you purchase them so who knows how many parents and their chubby germ infested kids who pick their nose and eat their boogies and don't wash their hands have touched that very same item you took off the shelf. And then all you can do is wipe it down and hand it off to your chubby kid just so they could shove it in their mouths. And Baby Platypus licks the crap out of her sh*t since she's teething that sometimes I watch her and say "Baby Platypus, get a room!"
So last week I ordered the Germ Guardian Nursery Sanitizer on Amazon. Despite the reviews of the machine being too small I RIKE IT A ROT! Sure you can only shove in about 2 or 3 toys at a time but jeeze, you get your toys de-germinated. I did her pacifiers and all her teething toys and all the toys hanging on her playmat. I would give this 2 thumbs up.How do you clean new toys before giving them to your kids? Have you ever tried this sanitizer?

I never cleaned new toys and rarely cleaned old toys....and my children have lived to tell about it.
wow.. I never really cleaned toys, but my child isn't really born yet so... but i know my soon to be sister in law throws everything in bleach, and then in water.... I don't know if that's healthy ><; but I'm interested in Germ Guardian Nursery Sanitizer :]
where i worked, i know the infant rooms put a lot of the toys into the dishwasher (in a mesh bag). for the older rooms, we sprayed down the room with a bleach spray...it's not enough bleach to harm the children is what the higher-ups told us. M is pretty good about not putting toys in her mouth and she never really did drool too much on her toys when she was little, but we usually do a handwash of them when other babies come visit.
I just put pacifiers and toys in the dishwasher - or wash them in hot soapy water
kids are dirty anyway. who cares
Huh? I've never cleaned my children's toys before giving them to them... as babies, toddlers or now. Heck, I don't even wash my lettuce or wipe off the mouth on my pop cans. LOL. My daughters and I are fine... occasionally we get the flu or the cold. Occasionally I would plop a bunch of things into the sink and wash them, but that's about it. Kind of an easy-going mom I've been called. lol
I usually rinse them off or wash in soapy water. My daughter spits up a lot so her toys get cleaned often. I rarely cleaned toys for my son, though.
I put everything in the dishwasher or washing machine if it's cloth (even if it says not to). Things like board books get sprayed with a lysol disinfecting cleaner and wiped downed. Maybe I will look into the sanitizer thing you bought. Seems like a neat idea. :)
I've never cleaned new toys, there really is no need to. You should be much more worried about the toxic chemicals in the plastic, than the germs that might be on it. For old, dirty toys we just wash them off with soapy water.
I don't know if anyone's ever heard of a company called Melaleuca. They have an amazing product that is a 99.9% effective disinfectant approved by the EPA for use in hospitals, daycares, nursing homes etc. that is ENTIRELY herb based. No bleach no harsh toxins to carry over into our kids mouths. It's made of thyme. You can spray this directly on or spray and wipe or whatever. It's safe. I would never give my kids bleached things.
I have done the dishwasher thing but I also use bleach free dishwasher detergent.
I think it is a good idea to wash the toys somewhat regularly especially if there are friends around and kids who run their snot on it or put it in the mouth etc. This is how germs spread.
my mom didn't clean anything we ever played with. and at the hospitals i've worked in, the toys are just sprayed down with rubbing alcohol and air dried. anything more than that i think is overkill. kids need germs.
Though I'm not a mother, I've learned through my nursing studies that throwing toys and pacifiers (and the like) into a pot of boiling water for ten minutes will disinfect it. If you're for some reason worried about the water, then boil it for ten minutes before throwing anything you're cleaning into it or use a form of bottled water to boil. (The machine above looks as though it would do something similar to what I just suggested but I could be wrong.)
I use Clorox Everyday Sanitizer for the big stuff. It's works well (as far as I can tell) and it's non-toxic.
@olasdelmar@xanga - I USE THAT TOO! goodness guys.. clorox, bleach.. thoes have a lot of toxins! If you'd like to know more about it please visit my blog "I Want A Green Home".
