Although it is still hot and summery outside, September feels like Autumn to me. It's a time for changing seasons, for changing leaves. I love Autumn. I feel it's the best time of the year. A time to be thankful for what we have, to reflect, to reconnect with our inner selves and others. After all, it would be a long winter stuck indoors if you aren't connected with yourself and your family.

I'm already itching to get my harvest decorations out. I already switched out my glass fruit bowl to the one with red and gold leaves on it. I'm making myself wait at least a few more weeks. I may wait until the leaves start to change. Not sure. I just know that there's a good possibility that one day Papa Fox will go to work with our house looking normal and come home to a harvest/halloweeny display.

I've done that to him every other year, not warning what I was going to do so he could be shocked when he saw it.
I am planning for Halloween costumes already.

This year I'll be a witch. Not a hag looking witch but a nice one. I have a black and purple striped hat, a purple crushed velvet cape, black and pink stockings (going to look for purple but pink would work), and black boots that could be considered witchy. This will be the first year of taking the boys trick or treating. We were going to last year but I was having contractions (I was 38 weeks pregnant with Fox3) and didn't feel up to walking the neighborhood. I am going to ask Fox1 today what he wants to dress up as. I think a trio of pirates would be adorable. Homemade pirate costumes shouldn't be too hard.
Back to my point, I LOVE Autumn. I truly do. I'm so excited! The Autumn Equinox is the 22nd of this month. It's the day when light and dark are equal. From that day on the days get shorter and the nights get longer, making it's way towards winter. I've been reading up on some folklore about the season, especially about Persephone and her trip to the Underworld. I found a good child-friendly story about it that I'm going to read to the boys sometime soon. I want to share my joy of the season with them. Plans for celebrating the equinox are already in the works.

What's your favorite season? Do you do anything special to celebrate it?

i love this post =D
id have to say that i love all the seasons equally. after a while, i get sick of each season and i welcome the change. like right now, im PUMPED that fall is here. =] summer can get boring after a while. and i bet i'll be saying the same thing about fall in a few months. and then i'll be excited for winter and then same for spring etc etc etc.
so i love them all =D
Autumn is definitely my favorite season... and like you, I can not wait to get out the decorations!!
you are so creative with autumn!
my favourite thing about autumn is kicking around in all the leaves :]
Autumn is my favorite time of the year too! One of the things I try to do every year (which I'm not sure I can this time because of my due date) is go hiking in Wisconsin just across from Taylors Falls with my family. The colors are gorgeous and the weather is perfect. I love being outside to enjoy the beauty of it all.
I look forward to Summer - yes fall is here, way too soon for me. The temps are way down, rain is frequent, and it becomes so dreary. It heralds the beginning of winter, warm clothes, heaters on, storms, mud, slushy snow, not too many days with sun shining, - I am not a happy camper LOL
I love them all, but since winter is when family is able to get together, I love that the most.
This post made me smile. I was at the fabric store the other day and was surprised to see all the fall decorations out. I'm still in summer mode! I'm sure you would've loved it!
Fall is my favorite season too! I love the crisp days and the beautiful colors! I'm glad you're getting your boys excited for it. Are you kidding? My little brother and I started planning our costumes during the Summer, we were so excited! Doing it in September is okay..
