  • Cabin Fever: Being Homebound Sucks

    Mama Foxby Mama Fox

We are now on month 3 of being a one vehicle family. I am antsy, the kids are bouncing off the walls, and I think we all need a good trip out of the house. Playing in the back yard is helping somewhat but being homebound just sucks. I never realized how much we used to go out and do things until that option was taken away.

This past weekend was the Austin Ice Cream Festival. I had to convince Papa Fox into going, but then we had to survive the horrors of downtown parking. Besides that, it was fun! We all tried some peanut butter soy ice cream. Yum. It was nice to just be out of the house, even though it was hot as Hades outside, and we had to walk almost a mile from where we parked to get to the front gate of the park.

Mama: "After you wake up from your nap, we're going to an ice cream festival!"
    Fox1: "Vegetable? But I don't like vegetables."

Yesterday we were in luck. Our weekly playgroup was in the afternoon. Yay for socialization! Great timing too. For the last few weeks, playgroup has been on a Friday and I dreaded having to wait until the end of the week. I honestly would have lost my mind if I didn't have these neighborhood moms.

Papa Fox is just waiting on a phone call from the National Guard - he may even get promoted to Sergeant soon! Once he does a drill weekend, that money will very quickly go to getting Texas tags on the motorcycle. I know he's getting really moody because he can't really ride it, and I'm getting moody that I don't have my truck. Let's hope it happens soon. I would gladly give up one weekend with my husband to have transportation during the week.

Anyone else tired of being homebound?

Awhile back when it was super duper hot, I was tired of being at home especially because we don't have AC. But it was also too hot to go out. I would have loved to find a nice cold place, but that would require us getting back into a super duper hot car when we head home for naptime. We've been able to go out lately. Before we moved, we were stuck because of the cold weather. My sister dubbed the street that we lived on "Tornado Alley" because it was always really windy no matter what the weather was.

Its been hard for me being home too!  I am on maternity leave but am used to working 80+ hours a week, so being home 24/7 now, while its nice to spend time as a family and go out and play, come nap time I'm twiddlng my thumbs are trying not to go crazy lol  Let me know if you come up with any ideas to break the cabin fever!
