Thank You for Not Peeing on the Floor
by Mama Turtle
I've literally hit my limits in trying to have Turtle4 go on the potty. In the past few weeks it has gotten to the point that she'd only go if I took her and sat her down. Even when the couple of times out of the day she'd argue with me and not want to go, I would "be right" - she did have to go.
I had my "that is it!" moment when she had peed on the kitchen floor yet again and before I happened upon it, Turtle2 slipped and fell in it, hurting his elbow. I was sincerely really angry with her, but I knew being angry was only going to make it worse. I just went and grabbed a sposie and put it on her and told her I can't have any more pee (or worse) on the floor any more so until she figured out how to go potty she was going to wear them.
I think by rights, and for the sake of my sanity, I can put things on hold. We have been at this, at her own initiation, since the summer of 2006. She'll be four in September. All the back and forth with her progress has made me about cuckoo. It doesn't help that I tell myself maybe I should have EC'ed with her as a baby. Some people keep talking about "a window of opportunity" and I do not think, with as early as she was wanting to climb aboard that I missed this mysterious window. I think we more, fell out of that window, lol!
I wanted to just grab a pair of training pants but....the washing machine decided to die a few weeks ago. Perfect timing with having just gone broke buying the van. It didn't totally die, I think it needs a belt replaced, based on the smell that suggested rubber wanted to go up in flames (but filled the whole room with smoke instead - Pee U!). I didn't want to have wet trainers sitting around for who knows how long (it's already been two weeks) while waiting until we can afford to fix it or replace it or whatever it is we're going to do. I'm not terribly handy, and Papa Turtle is even less handy with that sort of thing. Uncle B being here though, I think if I figured out what exact part(s) to get we could tackle the project together. It's been a good washer and I think with some TLC I can keep it going for years to come.
I'm trying to think of how old it is...My mom bought it when she moved down from NY and that was in '02...she gave it to me in '04 or '05. I know with a family of 6 and at one point two in diapers, I've really put it through it's paces. That it was freely given on top of that, even if we do replace it I guess I should not complain.
Meanwhile the laundry is slowly piling up and I was wanting to go to the laundromat three days ago now. But Papa Turtle has been getting home late, not feeling well, all week, not to mention I'm pretty out of it by the time dinner is over with. I'm going to have to suck it up and pack up the laundry and the kids and have Uncle B take us. At least I have that option. Four kids at the mat, yay. I can't let the laundry pile get any funkier than it probably already is. Laundry is the one chore (and about the only chore) I stay on top of really well so I'm sitting here getting twitchy thinking about it!
Speaking of chores, I've finally lit a fire under my rear and started some serious decluttering. Turtle4 had the laundry room so trashed you could not see a speck of the floor. Between packaging and styrofoam, broken boxes, and general crap that I know only got moved with us because I was too sick to take care of it before we moved, I hauled out three kitchen sized garbage bags to the curb the other day. The room is still not finished and I have a lot of stuff to go through and decide what to do with it. I'm seriously pondering listing tons of things for free on Craiglist. You know, those troublesome items that do work and you don't want to just throw away, yet your are never going to use again in your life time. "Please, just show up and take my crap!" At least I can walk through the room without breaking an ankle.
Yesterday I did a really good job of decluttering the kitchen counters and shelves. Our kitchen is very limited in storage and counter space so it really needed it. It was so bad, we had one drawer just plain open with stuff like the tin foil and saran wrap piled on it. I think I'll keep my momentum going and do the cupboards, which are full of things we never use. And with that, I should get started!Do you have a laundry machine at home, or do you have to go to the laundromat or laundry room? Laundromat goers, how do you keep your kids occupied during trips to the laundromat?

i have a washer at home, i coudnt imagine taking my wild child to the laundromat and try to entertain him, while doing laundry. lol
ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok the title just about got me. It made me think of something I heard.
" Don't pee on my leg & tell me it's raining."
We used the laundromat while moving and it reminded me of the days when my mom took us to the laundromat as a child. My youngest and I took a coloring book, some crayons, and special drinks (*bucks hot cocoa) and spent several hours doing a boatload of clothes. We actually enjoyed ourselves and she felt very big helping to put the laundry in the washer and then get it out and put it into the dryers. She got to put the money in and push the button to start each machine. We had to decide if the clothes were really dry or if they needed 10 more minutes. Then we folded the warm, clean smelling clothes together. It was the most fun we'd had doing laundry in years! Of course, it helped that she got to go alone with me while the other kids stayed at home with big sister, but I think the others would have enjoyed it too.
Go on a day when you don't have anything else that you have to do. Think of it as a special treat, bring snacks and drinks, and fun things to do. You never know, it may turn out to be a fun trip!
We have a washer and dryer in our little laundry room. I have to have my own washer and dryer as I just can't take the inconvenience of the laudromat. I have a habit of doing laundry at odd hours and the mats that are open 24 hours are usually not places where nice girls hang out, especially with their babies! Good luck with the decluttering! I have been working on our own house, same thing, I wasn't able to go through it when we moved, so all the crap got moved with us. I have so many things that I don't want to throw away because they're still good, but want out of my house! I'm having a hard time finding time to do it with my one baby, I can't imagine doing it with four! Wow.
We have a washer and dryer (actually 2 dryers - they were here when we moved in and I have only ever used one) in our basement. I am so happy that it is here, but would prefer that is be on the main floor. Oh well - someday. I have never done the laudromat thing so I really don't have any advice for you that way.
I am, however, always finding something to declutter. Right now, it is our garage that needs it VERY badly cuz' that is where all of the stuff from the basement got thrown when we had flooding in our basement. The best tip is just to take it a little bit at a time...which it sounds like you are doing. And then, once you get it decluttered, try to keep it that way by just doing little things each day to keep it that way. Then you don't have to go through the whole big declutter again. I know it sounds much simpler than it really is. Best of luck to you and hang in there!
Yay for decluttering! My mom and I (I still live at home) are attempting to declutter our entire house, heh.
At our house we have 2 washers and 2 dryers, but even so, the laundry always gets crazy around here (despite there generally only being 2 to 3 people living here at most during the week ... another sister of mine and her boyfriend stay on the weekends for visits, but...)
I've never been to a laundromat, but all I can say is I give you "mad props" for going to take 4 kiddos with you! (I believe I'd probably end up goin' nuts if I had 4 youngsters with me.)
:)
I'm soooo glad we have a washer and dryer in the house. We did "the 'mat" thing when we lived in our last apartment. I hated it and it was just me and Tim...no kiddies in tow. I can't imagine trying to go with four kids! I agree with Miss Jessica...MAD PROPS!!
I've done it all, from going to the laundromat to using the machines in the basement of the building I lived in to having my own washer/dryer (my current situation). I have to say, it's sooooo great to be able to do laundry whenever I want and not worry about having enough quarters...
That's all about to end in a couple of days though, because the apartment we're moving to this weekend does NOT have washer/dryer in unit. We decided to just go for it since there is a laundry room (with one washer and dryer) on our floor. It won't be as convenient, but it's much better than having to go to the laundromat with the baby!
I've been to the laundromat a few times with my two boys, but I am usually one of those people that has two bags for the kids in tow with her. In there they each have the things they picked out to do (reading books, coloring books, dinosaurs, cars...ect). I also pack a bag full of snacks. When I have to go to the laundromat I make sure its worth the trip so every scrap of clothing we own will be in the baskets. I usually take up at least ten washers when I go...make the day count right ;)
Good luck!!!
When I was little, we had to go to the laundromat. I found it painfully boreing, but I was 9. I beleive I brough books and my mom gave me the task of putting the money in the machines. You could split that up and give the kids tasks to do and then during the waiting time play games. Make it bonding time!
i don't have a washer/dryer...i use my bathtub and hang the items on the porch to dry. my neighbor doesn't have a job right now, so they watch the items while i work! otherwise, i turn on the oven, and heat the lower 1/2 of the apartment to make the items dry faster :P
its either that, or spend $15 at the laudrymat doin my laundry...
I can totally get the whole potty training thing. My 2 yr old has this refusal to actually want to use the potty at all right now. He knows how and all, he just doesn't seem to want to or something. Very frustrating. For days in a row, he'll go without wetting his pants or anything--even wear his "big boy" underwear. Then, out of nowhere, he decides not to anymore.
UGH. I've done the laundromat thing... and boy am I (and so is my wallett) glad for the washer and dryer my MIL sprang for when we first got this house. Sure, we have to pay her back for it, but I can use the money I would have used at the laundromat to pay her. And I hated the laundromat!!
@filtered_sunlight@xanga - I joined my local freecycle this morning, yay!
@mamakoala - I also feel like I have run the gamut of laundry experiences as well...going to the laundry mat, dragging it to mom's house, and even apartment units in a separate building (fun in the wintertime) I have definitely never taking my w/d for granted, they're wonderful to have!
