  • Our New Swimming Pool

    Mama Elephant by Mama Elephant

Our neighbors just had one of those nice above ground swimming pools installed.  I am not talking about the blue ones you buy at Wal-Mart.  (Which by the way, I contemplated buying this summer but by the time we had the money, they were all gone.)  I didn't think much of it other than to wonder how much their water bill will be after filling it.  Junior on the other hand had his own thoughts.

As we were leaving the house to go buy him new shoes, he saw the pool.  Immediately upon returning home, he went to his room and put on some swim trunks then he grabbed a towel.  He was not happy when we tried to explain that the pool was not ours and we couldn't use it.  I pointed out that we had a basketball hoop instead and he gave me "the look."  I think it said, "You have got to be kidding me.  Do you really believe you can trick me into thinking a basketball hoop is as good as or better than a POOL?"  Trying to explain these details of social propriety or financial issues are like talking to a brick wall....or a man.  (He really is growing up.)

I was left with this nagging voice in my head saying, "You should have bought a pool earlier in the season.  You wanted one anyway so Junior could get some more exercise and a little sun.  Now all the pools you can afford are gone baby, gone."  I don't like the nagging voice in my head.  She understands about as much as Junior when it comes to finances.  But in this case, she is right.

We set out in search of a pool early yesterday afternoon.  It was a daunting challenge despite the fact that there is still at least 2 months of solid summer weather left to be had.  I suppose those big box stores had to hurry up and get their school supplies out so they could get their Halloween gear out so they can get all their Christmas stuff on the shelves for us to buy no later than October and in Wal-fart's case...September.  I digress yet again.

It was off to Big Lots for our long shot and boy did it pay off!  We got a cheap blue pool with filtration system, cover, and protective tarp for $56.00 and then it was on to Wally World for the chemical starter kit (16.95).  Not bad at all.  Of course, nobody had the replacement filters so those have to be ordered from Amazon.com (I love them), but all is well.

We had barely walked in the door and dear old Daddy hadn't even had time to open the box before Junior had his swim trunks on and was ready to dive in!  It was too cute for words so I will supply some photos.

The nagging voice is no more!

Do you sometimes have a nagging voice in your head?  Do you usually ignore it, or give in to its demands?
