Papa Turtle was home early from work so visiting Uncle B drove me to the DMV office yesterday. I so just wanted to get my state ID and be in and out of there but thought "When am I going to get the opportunity to get here again? How long will I drag this (getting license goal) out for?" and realized I was being pretty daft once I knew I could just tell the lady (after my number was called) that I was there for a learner's permit and poof I could take the test right then and there.
So I was totally unprepared to actually take a test but I passed based on common sense and well, I did use to drive after all, it just had been a long time. Ok, I concede a few were some lucky guesses, and a few I got wrong, well I just blame the wording. Like that damn question about pedestrians and right of way. Only fifteen dollars and an hour later and I walked out with my permit complete with uber-crappy picture. Uncle B asked if I wanted to drive home: "Hell no!!" Better give me an empty parking lot for a first go, not 4 lane rush hour traffic in CrazyDriverville.
I can blame past circumstances all I want but I am trying to correct my tendencies to be subconsciously self-sabotaging too. On Friday it was all a step in the right direction, so I'm giving myself a pat on the back.

HIHI^^
Whoo!
Congrats!!
congrats I'm in my next step of learning to drive. I recently took one lesson already and trying to master turning right and left.
Congrats!
must've not been in New Jersey when u took that test. I think the NJ drivers test is the hardest of all, it full of trick questions and stuff. But congrats on getting a permit.
I just got my learner's permit too. I decided 25 is a good age to get it LOL
Congratz! I got my driver's license at 28.
yay congrats, that's the first step! i'm curious - since you said you used to drive, does that mean your license just expired at some point since you didn't renew it? (i'm wondering if an expired license means that you need to repeat all the steps.)
I have had my learners for about 6 years now. Car's used to scare me. But my goal is to complete this task by the end of the year. I am buying a car for motivation.
Good luck!S.x
congrats! I didnt get my license until I was 18. Im happy i waited. sometimes 16 seems to early to get it.
Wow, I feel really good reading this; I'll be 20 and just got my license 2 weeks ago; good to know that it's okay to wait for the right timing based on the individual. Congrats on getting your learner's permit! :)
Thank you thank you thank you for posting this. I'm 20 and don't have a license :(
I have really bad anxiety and I'm taking baby steps.Congrats!
hey hey.. yeah congrats.. i'm still learning to drive. and taking the driving test is stumping me right now. but cross fingers. lets level up our driving skills and become independent driving beings! =]
@BeautifulB_227@xanga - Dang, really? I'm going to need to study then.
@mamakoala - Long story short, I never had an actual license. My dad started teaching me at 14, and I got my permit at 16, between then and twenty I just didn't actively pursue it - and sometime in my early twenties I let it expire.
I never had my own car but before it expired, people let me drive often. My dad had me practicing almost every weekend there was good weather!
@rockerbaby215@xanga - You're welcome
Anxiety after my first was born was one thing that held me back too. I didn't even know what was wrong with me at the time but I would dread knowing that I'd have to get in the car to go somewhere. Just being in the car became a huge panic trigger. And I was a horrible backseat driver, which drove Dh crazy.
Yay! But those places always manage to take the most unflattering picture of us-they must do it on purpose. Good luck with driving!
Where do you live? I was under the impression that most states don't require adults to get a learner's. Anywhere I've lived, once you turned 18 you had to take the written and road tests, and as long as you passed, you got your actual license.
@cbprice24@xanga - I'm in NC, where it does seem that the regs for teenagers are very strict (they have to have their permit for a year, take classes and I don't think they qualify for a license until they are 18) Anyways, I wanted to be able to legally practice (hope it's like riding a bike!) for a while before taking the road test, because I only want to go through that one time!
I was raised in NC and got my license there. They do have pretty strict rules for teenagers. I didn't have to wait till I was eighteen to get my license, but it may have changed in the 6 years since I got my license at 16. Best of luck to you!
