  • Teething Woes

    by Mama Platypus

    Moshi Moshi!
Ok so about my weekend...*sigh*...oh and for the record, she was b*tchy before we even left the house.

The hubs and I are in the process of purchasing a house. So this weekend we hit up route 4 and 17 in Paramus to check out all the furniture stores. We went to Pottery Barn, Bloomingdale's Furniture, Macy's Furniture, Crate & Barrel, and West Elm. So we're basically taking Baby Platypus out of the car, pushing her in her stroller, carrying her, putting her back in the car, taking her out of the car, pushing her in the stroller, carrying her, putting her back in the car, and so on...you get the picture. Poor little thing was worn out.

Oh and another 'for the record,' this one is directed to the cow whore at Bloomies! I wasn't changing her on one of your display beds you stupid donkey! I was just snapping her onesie shut so calm the f*ck down. I wouldn't do that. Geeze! Relax. What I shoulda done is gotten Baby Platypus' poopy diaper and chucked it at her from across the room. Too bad Baby Platypus didn't poop though.

Anyways, we had no idea why she was so moody besides the fact that we were dragging her everywhere. It just seemed like there was more to it then her being tired. I mean she'd fall asleep throughout the day but not for long. I thought she was teething. I mean it was SUCH a struggle just to get her to eat. She eats about 6oz every 3-4 hours. We fed her at 4:30 and then she didn't eat again till midnight! Everytime we'd try she'd fight and cry and she wouldn't just cry. I mean she was like pissed off type of cryin ya know? We could only feed her while she was sleeping. Otherwise she wouldn't eat. With the lack of sleep and the refusal of the bottle along with the mad drooling I thought she was teething. The only time she'd calm down is if we did our window watching. What's that you say? That's when she makes me take her to the window so she can look at all the cars driving by.

Then Sunday came along and I'm like, ok it's a new day, things will be better. They were the same. She was just sooo moody. Again refusing the bottle. Geeze man! I mean I'm b*tchy when I'm pmsing but I pass my crown on to her. Ok Baby Platypus, you're a bigger b*tch than mommy. You win! Again we had to feed her while she was sleeping. By the time evening hit my arms were killing me from all the carrying. And she was being picky about that sh*t too. You had to hold her facing front. You're killin me! I got so tired I just Bjorned her ass.

So Monday morning I dropped her off at school and warned her teacher. I come to pick her up at 6:30 in the evening and I ask her teacher how she was and she was like "Oh she was sooo good. She ate all her milk and she didn't even cry. She only cried when you were standing next to her crib just now but that was the only time."  Baby Platypus I'm gonna...

Then the director comes in and she's so happy to see me and she's like...

"Yeah Ms. Y said that Baby Platypus was giving you a hard time this weekend."
"Yeah! She was. I think she's teething."
"Well today we were talking about how she was being so good and that we don't know what you're talking about."
Baby Platypus! You're making mommy look like a crazy person you lil punkass.
"Oh really? Well, I abuse her and that's why she cries when she's home. That's all I do. Just beat her."
    "Hahahahaha!"

OMIGODBABYPLATYPUS! I hope you know that your cute factor is the only thing that's saving you right now!

So what do you think-- does this sound like teething to you?  What calms your baby when she's in such a bad mood?

Maybe it was just one of those weekends that babies think they can drive you nuts. They are usually right. It's a conspiracy.

Bath time always helps when my boys just. won't. stop. I'm glad now I can send them out to play in the swimming pool.

Maybe.  People blame everything on teething though.  I've been told my little one has been teething for four months now. No teeth yet!  Maybe it's just a growth spurt?

Not fair that the teachers weren't more supportive of your hard weekend and instead tried to make you feel even worse. Shame on them. I hope she's doing better now!

We kept thinking M was teething for a long time too, but I think it's just a growth spurt too. They do that. Who knows what goes on in that little baby brain? I read in a babycenter article that kids sometimes are well behaved at school than at home. As a Pre-K teacher I can actually attest to that fact...the kids will help clean up and take a nap, etc etc, but when we tell the parents about it, they're like 'how come you don't do that at home?' to the kid.

when my baby's in a bad mood...the thing she loves the most is when i take her outside... it's like a miracle... she stops crying completely... and recently when she was screaming in the car... i blasted classical music and she stopped... it was amazing!

UeberKid is ALWAYS good at daycare and OFTEN moody at home - apparently, it's a sign that the baby feels safe enough to let his/her hair down at home. Well, color me happy... *sigh* I feel your pain!

I've found that usually, it's a combination of teething, shots, a different day than normal, a nose cold, a growing spurt, or any of those things... All I can say to myself is "this too shall pass!"

Oh my goodness...there's so many gems in this post: "cow whore at Bloomies", "I just Bjorned her ass", and "was like pissed off type of cryin ya know" (I know exactly what you mean here!) ...I loved it! Sounds like a very hard weekend and I'm glad both of you made it out alive! I don't know a whole ton about babies, but judging from my crazy nephews, that sounds like teething to me. But then with her being perfect at school, that's weird..Good luck!
