by Mama Fox

On Saturday, I told the older boys to be good, kissed my husband goodbye and Fox3 and I ventured out to gather some local food. First stop was the tiny farmer's market on South Congress. I was expecting slightly more but that's okay. I walked away with onions, eggplant, a cantaloupe and carton of eggs. Next week, I'll try
the Sunset Valley market.
Since it was so close, I decided to drive a bit further and check out
Farm to Market. We had passed it a few times when driving from downtown and I really wanted to see what it was all about. I'm very pleased. Organic, natural and some local foods,
seventh generation and
preserve products, fresh local flowers and all fairly inexpensive! This will be a permanent stop on Saturday errand runs.
When I got home, I gave Papa Fox a huge hug. I really needed that hour and 1/2 out of the house to just enjoy myself. That is my cure for the horrible 'mama burnout' weekends. I got to do something
I wanted to do and took my time doing it. I don't mind Fox3 coming along but maybe we can work on being able to leave him at home.
I cut up cantaloupe, washed blueberries, made sandwiches (with my homemade bread

) and filled water bottles. Put everything in a cooler, grabbed our 'outside' blanket, made sure everyone was covered in sunblock and we headed to the park for a picnic with some friends. We spent 3 hours sitting around, chatting and laughing. The boys ran around with the other kids. I had to make them sit down and drink water a couple times. I really didn't want them overheating. It was a very fun day.
Sunday we cleaned the house then went by the store to buy a kid's swimming pool. The boys are having a blast! It's going to be a battle to get them out of it at the end of the day. Nothing like spending a hot Texas summer day splashing around in a pool.
We also stopped by the exotic pet store to buy a feeder mouse for our snake. We were there a good 25 minutes just looking at the snakes, lizards, hedgehogs and sugar gliders. They sell baby ball pythons for $30! In Oklahoma, I never saw babies for sale for less then $80. So probably next month, we'll get a tank set up and buy us a little baby.

We already have a perfect name picked out, "Knot."

It was a fun, relaxing, recharging weekend! I am hoping we can always have weekends like that. How was your weekend?

amazing what an hour and a half could do, isn't it? i should look into where the farmer's markets are around here. homemade bread and fresh, local fruit sound so good!
Ohh, you lucky. I've wanted a ball python for a while now, but everyone in my house is a chicken. Maybe I'll settle for a third cat..
what an exciting weekend!! thanks for sharing your fun outings with us. i was thinking to get a kid's swimming pool, but we're on drought alert here. but M settled with the little tub of water and some floatie toys and a spray bottle. still fun.
@its_a_kitteh@xanga - Aw that sucks. I really don't understand why people don't like (non-poisonous) snakes. Unless you are a rodent, there's really nothing to worry about.
That sounds like a GREAT break! I can so relate - after days at the NICU, we got to send the baby home YAY
And of course having neglected my own home, I needed to clean, go to the store etc. I chose to walk back and forth to the grocery, just to enjoy the walk, the air, the heat.
Simple chores can be divine on occasion.

The Sunset Valley one has an ok variety, though I can't tell you what the prices are like since I haven't actually bought anything. Could you tell me where the South Congress one is? That sounds a bit closer to where I live.Â
@xiaosnowtenshi@xanga - It's at the El Gallo restaurant (
2910 South Congress). It was really only 3 little stands. You can find all the farmers markets info here. It shows what days and where each of them is at.
Snakes, eh? What kind of snake do you have right now? C and I bought a baby ball python at a reptile expo they had here and I think we got her about $30, if I remember correctly..I guess it depends on when you buy them. She's great! My brother has two regular boas, one albino, and a ball python ...and they're huge! I think they're so pretty! I'm glad you and your fam had a good weekend; it's great to be able to relax with everyone!
