  • Weekend Fun

    Mama Seahorseby Mama Seahorse

On Saturday, we went to the Health and Safety Fair, which we also attended last year.  It would be memorable because attending the Health and Safety Fair, as the celebrity, was none other than Jack Sparrow, captain of the Black Pearl, swaying and slurring his way around the giggling women and star-eyed children.  I am pretty sure most of the kids were just excited to hold his gun or his sword... and most of the women were wishing he really was Johnny Depp underneath that make-up and swagger.

I leaned over to J and reminded him that technically, Johnny Depp is on my "list."  You know, the list of celebs we are allowed to cheat with, if ever we had a chance.  "Go right ahead" he laughed... and I think I threw up a little in my throat.  Not only the idea of pretending this stranger was actually Jack Sparrow, and consequently Johnny Depp, but the idea of being with another man in general.  Ew.  Happily married, yo.  Done deal.  There goes the list.  Plus, even though this guy was in full character the whole time (even when eating a hot dog), and was pretty good I must admit, he is still no Johnny Depp. We did figure out why Jack Sparrow has a permanent place at the Health and Safety Fair... his mom works for the center.  (aha!)  Because Jack Sparrow is just the perfect example of the pinnacle of Health and Safety, right?  Role model to the kiddos... let's go!

Moving on... other things we did at the Fair:

    An oversized, alien-form Operation.  Interesting.

    Walking.

    Balloon smacking.

Getting out of the car.  Exciting, no?  (Yes, C did wear his rainboots.  No, I don't know why... sigh.)

Friday held some excitement as we took the fam outdoors for some normal kind of fun... rollerblading and biking.

On Thursday we went to the local Farmer's Market for the second time... I love the Farmer's Market - not only does it make me feel like I am being more responsible by buying locally, but it's filled with healthy and mouth-watering fruits and veggies, and we even have a guy who is famous for his corn being so sweet and tender that people buy it, peel it, and walk down the street eating it raw.  I am telling you - it's addictive.  But this week, we had an extra treat - after the rain cleared, three cowboys had a real live shoot-out right in the streets.  My town is... well, hokey.  The hats and boots were all over the place... I mean, I almost felt like a sore thumb sticking out without my cow-gear.  Its cool though... we watched the shoot-out, we got some corn, we left.  No need to take part in the whole saloon-ish culture, now is there?

Here's a pic of the "Sheriff":

Now I must admit, with some small modicum of shame, that around the corner from our house, there is, in fact, an honest-to-God saloon.  Yup.  Our town has rodeos and everything... it's interesting, because we have some serious Harley-riding crowds, some serious cowboy-lovin crowds, and then the tattoo'd hippie freaks - I am not sure which I fall into.  (hmmm?)  But all the crowds were out in full force... the hippie folk were swishing in their skirts along the street with their reusable cloth grocery bags, scooping up tomatoes, blueberries, and fresh made gluten-free, vegan bread (SO good!), so I am pretty sure that's my crowd.  Ah well.

So what did you do with your family over the weekend?

Nothing anywhere near as exciting. Unless sitting at home with the kids when its cold out, snuggling under duvets, and watching dvd's counts!

Sounds like you had an awesome weekend!

Saturday, I hit up the farmer's market and the local organic/natural grocery (I'm a hippie freak ) then we headed out for a picnic with some friends. Sunday we cleaned the house, went on a quick store run for potting soil (organic of course) and a swimming pool for the kids then to the exotic pet store to look at all the snakes, lizards and sugar gliders and of course to buy a feeder mouse for our snake.

We had a fairly decent weekend, no pirates or shootouts though.

Sounds like a fun weekend!  Ha ha!  My husband and I have "the list" too!  Johnny Depp is also on my list!

I was wondering where, exactly, a pirate with a failing liver and possible brain damage fit in there... What a proud mother she must be...pointing at the guy with dreadlocks and eyeliner, stumbling around appearing drunk..."That's my boy!" *looks down at stomach* Please, no.

There was am uneventful weekend here. [VERY by contrast to yours!] Of mostly staying home. Behold, the joys of 1.) having a fiance` that works every Friday, Saturday & Sunday, without fail & 2.) it being too hot to spend more than 5 minutes outside.
