Play Time: My Gym or Under the Sea?
by Mama LionEver since Baby Lion has learned how to pull himself up, he has an endless amount of energy. He can stay up for longer periods of time between naps, hardly shows signs of sleepiness, stays asleep for shorter periods, and will often wake up in the middle of naps wanting to play. Oh, and he wakes up in the early and later part of his bedtime wanting to play too. Basically, he's just really excited about his new skills and is always eager to test them out. Although I want to encourage him to go and explore that means that I have to be RIGHT by his side at all times just so he doesn't topple over and hurt himself and it's tiring (I swear he has more energy than hubby and I COMBINED). I've always been interested in signing Baby Lion up for Gymboree, but after much thought I decided not to just because it's too far from our house and the commute alone can easily take about 45 minutes or more each way depending on the traffic (without traffic it'd take about 20 minutes, but I live in LA so I know that will never happen).
But now that Baby Lion is very mobile and EXTREMELY active I'm desperate to sign him up just so I can have a break and so that Baby Lion can go do his thing without me worrying, and in the hopes of maybe him becoming tired out by the end of the day so that he'll just SLEEP. So today, I just decided to browse the Internet and I found two places nearby!!!
My Gym and Under the Sea. I think I'll try out Under the Sea first since it's open play all day for $9/child and adults are free. I'll go once and see how it is and if I like it, I can sign up for a monthly membership of $55/month. If I don't like it, I'll go check out My Gym which is 8 classes/$140. The thing I don't like about this is that the class that Baby Lion would go to coincides with his nap time and if Baby Lion doesn't nap, he is one cranky baby!!!
Have any of you moms tried these two places? What did you think of them??

Yes, it's harder and more tiering, when you have a baby, that is more active now.
My daughter, she's 5 months now and she's very active.
You always have to look and be there with them at all times.
They'll hurt themselves.
I put my baby on the bed and just went to get her a diaper just for a sec and she fell off the b ed.
luckily, she really didn't get hurt.
I haven't taken my daughter to My Gym either because of her nap time. I started taking her to Tiny Town when she started to take interest in walking and she loved it. Since we go so often, I purchased a 20 visit card for $120 ($6 for the whole day, per visit).
Under the Sea seems like a Cali thing, but we have a My Gym around here as well. It's too far for my liking from current home, so I've taken Baby Koala to Gymboree (5 min away!) for a free session. I liked it, but didn't get a chance to register b/c things got too busy with work and life. We're moving in August, and our new place is 10 min away from the My Gym... I plan on checking it out to compare with Gymboree. Maybe I'll post about it then .
Eager to read about your results. My baby is the same way, very mobile and happiest when she's able to just go. Her sleep has also been waning lately, making me very tired!
Nope, haven't tried them out. My daughter is still taking 2 naps and it's hard to get out to do anything other than grocery shopping, library storytimes, or visits to different libraries (what can I say, the girl loves books, like her mama), visits to grandparents, or to the mall. Do you know if they have set times for those places? If it's set, we definitely can't make it. Let us know how it goes, and perhaps, one day we will check it out too. I hear Gymboree has a great program, but a big costly?
I haven't done any of these things with my children at all. But I just wanted to drop a not an encourage you to not worry so much. They are going to fall...and live. Falling is part of their learing curve and they generally survive it. I have three boys and you can always find at least a half a dozen bruises between them. This may sound awful, I really don't abuse or neglect my children or anything, but they aren't as breakable as they may seem.\
Good luck with the baby gyms.
