yup, it will happen even when you're right there. and it'll be like that even when they're growing up...you help them when you can, and when they fall you just help them back up. that's why our parents still see us as babies...it hurts them when we are hurting too. anyhow, i was just looking at my daughter's knees when i was changing her diaper the other day and poor thing has bruises everywhere from "falling". she just learned to run last month and sometimes outruns her body so she ends up on her knees. it's worse now that it's summertime and she's wearing shorts or dresses, but she doesn't seem to care too much when she falls and just gets right back up. i think when she was learning to pull up to stand before, she got up in the middle of the night and even hit herself on the side of the crib, but went right back to sleep. and they do learn from the falls, but hopefully nothing too serious of course.

Yes, they will fall and Yes, they will be just fine. Falling is just part of childhood. And it really does help them learn. I have 3 boys and they are all 100% boy - especially my youngest who is just under 2. He is the only one we have ever had to take to the hospital for a concusion.

One tip that I have found helpful is to let them react before you do. Sometimes a fall looks really bad, but didn't hurt much or do any damage. But if you start 'freaking out' and react right away, they are often going to react worse. If you wait and see how they react...you'll be surprised the falls they can take and just get up and walk away. Just my little tid bit for the day.

Yikes....that was a bit of a fall.  Hope he is well.  My middle child fell a lot.  He always had a goose egg on his head from something.  He fell down the steps a lot and jsut running in the house fell and blackened his front tooth.   He eventually outgrew it!

Yes, these falls are horrible, aren't they? But you can't always stop them from falling. Of course if you could, they would never learn how to stand up or walk! Still, it makes a mommy's heart miss a beat each time...

UeberKid climbed over my arms last week and fell off the changing table - he was fine (we checked with the doctor to make sure), but I couldn't breathe for another two days... I thought I'd have a coronary right there! He fell on top of a small pile of clothes, and there was no significant bump on his head afterwards, but I still worried and checked on him several times over the next couple of nights...

@sidewayslife@xanga - I try to wait to see how bad it was too, usually, but this time my instinct took over - I screamed! And I think that's what made him scream, too...
