My Nighttime Lifesaver
by Mama LionThe Sweet Peace:
Seriously, the best investment ever! Baby Lion's been sleeping in our room with us in his swing. Although he wakes up frequently at night and wants out of his swing, I think it's better than the other options the dr gave us since:
1. The swing is already in our room (he sits in it to watch his Baby Einstein).
2. Baby Lion outgrew his infant car seat and this swing can hold up to 25 lbs.
3. The swing provides him with automatic soothing motions whereas if he was in his stroller I'd have to manually do it myself.
We also have this swing:...The Papasan Swing:
...but we had to say goodbye to it a loooong time ago. Even though the maximum weight is the same as the first one Baby Lion literally outgrew it as his head kept hitting the pole and his feet were dangling out. It also stopped "swinging" and kept creaking as if it were going to break because of all the weight on it, so we had to let it go. I'm going to be REALLY really sad when I have to part with my Sweet Peace. What was your most recent "investment" purchase for your kids?

Besides that I need to invest in a new carseat for the new Little coming along...I haven't gotten anything in a long time! I would love to get a moses basket, I loved having it when my third baby was a newborn and wished that it didn't get squashed/broken in storage before baby #4. I found it to be small and mobile, and it worked as a laundry basket and baby clothes storage place after it was outgrown.
I'd be scared to have those swings, they look like they could fall! We had a glider chair and James hated it- he hated everything. He had pyloric stenosis and so he was didn't like any chair or glider we put him in. By the time he had his surgery, he had outgrown every chair or glider we had. Poo. But our next baby should/BETTER be healthy, so maybe we can get something cool like these chairs. they should make them for adults huh?
i've only seen swings that hang from up top, so that first one you wrote about is really interesting. i'm curious to see it in action.
i think the jumperoo was probably my most recent investment purchase, but that was months ago and i wish i had gotten it cheaper through craigslist. it's a good toy, but it wasn't the lifesaver i wanted it to be, and baby koala didn't spend enough time in it to make it worth $70. it's ok though, because i'm sure we'll take it back out sometime in the future
I noticed you said he sleeps in the swing in your room, and you said something about it was one of the options the Dr gave you.. sorry if I missed a previous post or something, but was wondering if your baby has acid reflux? My son had acid reflux really bad until he was 6 months old, and had to sleep in his bouncy seat on the floor next to my bed. It was the only way to keep his fomula down.. If I laid him flat he would throw everything back up.. just wondering if you were having the same problem?
I saw that in the store the other day.. It's Zaden approved lol.. so we might just get it ourselves
We don't have that first one. I've never seen it before. But we have the second one. We put it away when our son was six months old. And I was sad to see it go. LOL Our best investment now is an activity table that he can stand and play at from Leapfrog.
My best investment of recent was my Baby Bjorn carrier :) We have ALL the baby goodies (our little girl doesn't care much for swinging in her papasan swing, but she adores the cricket chirping sounds and star projections it makes haha - she can't sleep without them!) Anyways, back to the Bjorn. I almost fainted at the $75 price tag, but after unsuccessfully trying a peanut sling and a wrap sling, I was about to give up on the idea of babywearing altogether. But the Baby Bjorn has been amazing - when she was real small, she would snuggle face-in against me and if she was colicky, it would settle her right down. Now that she has reached 3 months, we have recently turned her face-out and she LOVES going shopping and being able to see all mommy sees. It's much more fun than pushing a stroller or lugging an infant car seat. Best money I've spent so far!
See, fun!
The most recent would have to be an iPod classic. It was a Christmas present for me but as it turns out, it has been indispensible when out on the town with our son. He has autism and lacks patience in doctor's offices, restaraunts, and the like. He will sit quietly and listen to his favorite songs or watch his favorite music videos or movies, etc. It has been a real life saver. A 13 year singing along to an iPod is not nearly as stare worthy as a 13 year using straws for drums and babbling nonsense.
@JennifersJourney@xanga - no our baby doesn't have acid reflux, he had a cold and the dr suggested having us sleep him in an upright position because of the post nasal drip.
I have to say that we are stuck in the stone ages here. With my most recent baby, a friend of mine had two swings she had received (used) so she gave us one of them. Turns out it is one of the old time wind up ones...and I have to say I loved it. It isn't anything fancy, but it doesn't cost you an arm and leg in batteries for the darned thing! And I think it works just as well.
Otherwise, I haven't made any recent purchases. It actually drives me a bit nuts the extent of things they have out for baby care now...and how much of it has to make noise. We put our kids in this stuff for the first year of their lives and then wonder why they can't entertain themselves fro any amount of time after that. Even many of the kids books talk/sing now. I get frustrated when I am just looking for a simple kids' toy sometimes. My sons' favorite toys are boxes and Duplo legos.
