Clipping the Itty-Bitty Nails
I read both Baby Laughs and Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy and I gotta tell ya, sometimes when I read her books I think I'm her or that she's me. She wrote about how she was soo scared to cut her son's fingernails when he was a baby and how she just covered his hands for weeks. That's me. Only I like Baby Platypus gripping onto my finger so I don't like covering them.
I first had my sister-in-law cut her finger nails for me. She cut her by accident and there was a lil bit of bleeding which is why ICANTDOIT. Mmmhmm. Then my girlfriend came to visit me with her son and I conned her into cutting her fingernails for me. She finished her left hand, cut her thumb by accident, and refused to do the right. I got my brother in law to do the right hand the next day.
Finally I got around to doing it on my own a couple of weeks ago. I was sooo nervous. I was sweating profusely. I changed the lamp bulb from 25 to 60. I would have gotten a 100 watts but I couldn't remember where I stored it. The key is to do it while they're sleeping so there's less movement. Guess what? I did it! And without cutting her! I was sooo proud of myself.

Now they've grown back and I have to do it again. I'm all nervous again... is it just me, or have you felt scared about clipping baby fingernails?

Congrats! My sister in law is always afraid of cutting my nephews nails so she bites them off. Then i was reading in a baby book and thats actually what they suggested! I don't know what she is going to do when he is older though and they are to hard to bite!
@Beach_Bum_Babe09 - wow, now that's love!!
what about filing those suckers down... is that possible?
I get scared when I am clipping my own nails. Scared of messing them up that is. I remember trying to cut my brother's nails when he was a toddler (he is 9 years younger). That was scary too.
It isn't just you! I was terrified to cut my son's nails. I made him bleed once or twice. But believe me, cutting a newborn's fingernails is WAY easier than cutting a toddler's fingernails. We do battle every week to get it done, and I think the risk of cutting him is much higher now because he moves so darn much.
I was scared until I cut their little fingers. Then I realized that it's okay--they live. Is that bad of me?
I'm like you, though. I need the light of a thousand suns, sleeping child and absolutely no distractions to do it. Or I make the husband do it.
Enjoy it now while they don't argue. My 4 year old starts a battle each time we need to cut his nails, and he usually convinces us to give him something, just to let us do it. Sneaky kid.
My son is 2 1/2 and I still don't do it...the hubby does it, thank goodness. It's a lot of pressure! Too much for me!
Dear Lord. I know how that goes. At Thanksgiving, I was doing my cousin's daughter's nails and I cut one a little too deep. It wouldn't quit bleeding because my cousin wouldn't leave pressure on the baby's SMALL cut so we took her to the ER. They guilted me into buying a new outfit for her....ugh.
I read that book back during my last pregnancy and loved it! I was nervous about cutting my first baby's nails and would try to avoid cutting them as much as possible. His nails would get so long! With this baby though I cut them when she was only 2 days old! So you get used to it...
I have never, in my son's 18 months of life, cut his fingernails. I'm almost legally blind. I don't trust myself to do it! So, my husband being so precise is in charge of that. Thank goodness!
